Free airplanes are never really free but they often get you building something you might have passed by before. I would never had bought either of these kits but they do resemble what I would have built back when I started in R/C in the early 70s so as a tribute I'll get them done at some point. At least these two gents will know someone remembers them.

You will have to post some picture of the two when done, I love glow engines the power, the ease, the smell, even cleaning up my models at the end of the day is a labor of love, I use half Windex and half rubbing alcohol and it does great, I know the fuel is high but it's what I do in my spare time, I don't have tv, I listen to sports on the radio while building, don't drink or use tobacco both those are very expensive, this is what I do for my entertainment, I know that it's a time consuming hobby, but I do get at least two planes built a year, I do work twelve long days in a row and only four days off a month, I do set aside at least one hour a day to build and on my days off I fly and work on the yard and house, but yes I do love powering my planed with glow engines, no electric for me I find them boring, and do have a few gas now, yes love the glow engines!

May I join and get a number please? I started with Cox and Testors .049 engines when I was around 10 I guess and I'm 49 now. Fiddling with those things was one of the few happy childhood memories I have. "They say" the sense of smell is one of the strongest triggers of memories and smelling glow fuel at the field always makes me think of the "good old days" flying my Cox and Testors C/L planes in the street in front of my house. I've got a few electric planes and like them ok. I also see the benefit of gas engines that a couple of the guys fly at the field. But I will never give up my glow engines as long as I can scrounge parts at swap meets. I know I'll probably always be able to get methanol as long as there is auto racing around, so I don't worry about that. Just a rough guesstimate is probably 75 engines, so I've got enough to last a while.

Wow... No activity since November of 2015... Better bring this back to the top! I've added some engines to my collection this year... Many actually. Gonna sell some, gonna give some others away, and I'm gonna Frankenstein a few too. The TigerShark .52 has a bum rod in it, so I sourced a good Rod from a worn out OS 46FX. Still need to run it. Here's my current collection: (I might have missed a few too)...

Wow haven't seen this thread in a long time.
you know what I'm tired of in RC hobbies? It's how hard RC enthusiasts are being pushed to make everything electric powered, I hate electric it's so dam boring in comparison. Out of over 20 planes and 5 RC cars I only have 1 electric powered model, an Eflite edge 540 profile.

I agree Dealspeed, even the AMA's publication shows mostly foamy electric airplanes. I was lucky enough to buy a new in box OS 40 FSR at our clubs swap meet. I installed it in my Balsa USA Smoothie, it started on the first flip and runs great! I will never convert to electric.

Yay! New names in the thread! Yea, electric is a bit snarky in my book. I have one electric plane, but it's way too tiny to convert to glow. I think it has a 10" wingspan. I only got this little plane to basically use as a trainer.. I'm a sucky pilot for now, and I want to fly 3D! Anyway, I'm glow for life. Castor and glow plugs forever!
My newest experiment is gonna be a blast from 1960 with a bench run of my old OS Max III .15.
I have a Norvel Neofun Classic 1/2a trainer, Goldberg MIG-27 target drone, Mojo .25, and an ultra micro T-28 Trojan. Have an FP10 in the trainer, an HB .61 in the MIG... I'm just not sure what I want to put in the Mojo. I was thinking my Jett .35 would fly it like no tomorrow...

Nice! I'm actually #88 in the glow head brotherhood, I just don't know how to have it in my posts. I also love the smell of castor oil. You have quite the collection of engines! Keep on flying, that's all that really matters!

About 3/4 of my collection I bought - all off the secondary market. Some engines were pure junk, others were jewels. I've picked up a chunk of a fellow's collection and have been slowly working through the box getting engines running that will and parting others together so they'll run. I enjoy just running engines, but I have a bunch of planes, cars, and boats. 5 planes, 4 cars, and 7 boats. Several of my engines are diesel conversions - a more recent addition to my hobby fun.

Thanks! I have read some of your posts on club fox. Running engines is a big part of the hobby for some of us. I am currently working on a Sig Kobra and a Sig Skybolt. The Kobra will be powered by an OS .35 AX, and the Skybolt will be powered by a RJL .61. Neither engine has been run yet. The Kobra is going to be finished first. The wing is covered, but the fuselage needs some detail work done before it can be covered.

I have so many glow motors, it would take a while to list them all.
and as for the 1 electric model I have, I was considering converting it to glow but I haven't come across a nice little .15 yet that will work, and as much as it pains me I will admit I like the ease of keeping it in the back of my civic hatch and stopping at a park or open field whenever the mood strikes and having a nice flight, if I convert it I will no longer be able to do that. So I guess electrics have there place but I see no reason for having more then one.

I will make an attempt at listing all the glow motors currently in my collection, both car and plane, I just need some time to really think on it and wright it all down.
i really feel like the electric take over of are RC hobby is ruining it, I was there in the beginning days of brushless motors and Lipo batteries.
Right as they started becoming available and picking up popularity, I was discovering Glow powered planes, over the next few years I had so much fun with tinkering with new motors and over powering small planes.
my very first real full 4 channel control RC plane was called a Aero princess from global hobbies, it was designed to have a tiny little Ap .15 in the nose, well I didn't like that little motor so I mounted a OS LA.25 in it
keep in mind up to this point I had been flying 4ch brushed electrics.
that little aero princess was absolutely brutal, insanely fast with a roll rate that made you dizzy, I wasn't expecting it to be so intense, but it was and I was immediately an addict to glow fuel from that moment on.
i realize electrics can be insane as well but they lack 2 very important things, that lovely smelling castor oil and smoke, and the amazing sound of a 2 stroke glow motor spinning the prop beyond super sonic, just screaming that perfect sound that boils your blood.

Can I join?
Right now I'm not flying anything but a simulator... but I'm having some fun running a few motors. Real ones with glow plugs that is
I only have a small collection compared to some of you guys...
Some fours -
HP 25VT
OS 20, 52, 70 S1, 91 S1, 120 S3 P
Some old 10cc pattern motors -
OS RFP61
OS SF61

And...
Picco 20SE
Enya 60CXL
Some crossflow OS Maxs from the 60s/70s, a 10, 15 19 & 40.

Got 5 worn out ones and another I re-pinched... Didn't think they were worthy of the list. Besides - I'm a bit of a Novarossi and Picco fan now. As I get the funding, I'm gonna replace my 3.3's with Novas or Piccos.

FYI - there's no need to list your collection - I do it because I write a list down on a piece of paper and either my son finds it and destroys it or my wife throws it away.. If I put it here, it can't get lost.
