Default "ABC" engines?

I ferget, what dose ABC stand for?
The only non ringed engine I ever had was a K&B Screamin 48, a FANTASTIC engine.
We clocked my World Models P-51 at 99 mph.

Aluminum (ringless) piston, Brass liner with Chrome plating. ABC "type" are not the same as ABC, most if not all 'ABC type' are nickel plated brass, not chrome. AKA ABN or ABL.

The big companies that used nickel that I can remember right now are OS, Thunder Tigre, and YS. I may be wrong, but I think Saito had one twin that was nickel plated.

Webra also had nickel plating in some of their engines. Some Enyas now have a type of nickel plating but it's compounded with silicon carbide so it's more like a Nikasil as used in very high performance cars including F1.

Remember guys, the OP didn't ask what engine companies use what plating method. They asked what it stood for.

Appears that the guys who responded to the question, offered a little bit of extra information. Now I am wondering, just what did it hurt ?

Sometimes these threads go on forever. Look, now I am doing it. There is also AAC. Aluminum piston, and sleeve that is chromed. Both parts expand at the same rate, making hot restarts easier. ABC is somewhat better than some other metallurgies because a lean run won't always seize up the motor. I would also like to know how to do some chroming. Voltages, chemicals, times etc. I guess that would be another thread that could be started.

I like when they go on forever. I learn things. The OPs original question was answered, so what's the harm?

The 'extra' stuff muds the topic up. All I wanted to point out is that ABC and 'ABC Type' are very different animals. In hindsight I shouldn't have even mentioned that.

I dont at all mind extras added in so long as the original question is answered as well. What I can't stand is the tangents that never have anything to do with the original question.

For example

Question: I just bought an asp 46, are there any quirks I should know about it to help in the future with tuning issues and what not?

Answer: well the thunder tiger and o.s. are far superior in quality......id go with one of those.

...............annoying

Though I believe people are a little too quick to snap in the forums im not jumping down qwk's neck because I understand the point he was trying to make. Once one idiot forgets to read the question ten others are sure to follow and the poor guy asking in the first place is sitting there left wondering what the hell just happened here?

Your example is hijacking a thread and is against the posting rules. Sometimes, people are just chatting and being friendly. It's not easy to figure out intentions or how a post may affect others. But, blatant cases like your example cause trouble like you said.

Let me run through this in my head. Its acceptable to post useless information that doesnt answer a posters question.........check!It is unacceptable to support someone who's efforts were to keep people on topic while helping clarify his point. ........double check!Oh my god ive done it again.....call the authorities this thread has been hijacked twice.

On a less cynical note, I feel like the behavior described in my example is far more frustrating than my example itself to the majority. I could be wrong, I have been on many occasions. .......but I suggest taking a survey to see. Here in the United States if we see a rule with questionable utilization we address it, take a vote and change it if necessary.

Oh wait. I misread your post and duly apologize. The way I read it appeared as though you were telling me I hijacked this thread. I was fired up and asking myself "did that really just happen???" So again now that I read it and understand your wording a little better I will say my mistake.

Lmao carry on gentlemen
