The end of small glow engines
So Evolution engines no longer has any glow engines smaller than a 40, Great Planes is looking like its on the outs with both Super Tigre and Thunder Tiger and so where does that leave small glow engines ? Great Planes discontinued OS 4 strokes smaller than a 56. You can still get a Saito 40 I suppose which is great but we are running out of options her in the states, unless you want an OS. Even then your options are dwindling.
I realize you can still get some stuff overseas but wouldn't it be nice to be able to get some stuff here?

Order direct from Enya. Fantastic engines and much superior to OS in the smaller sizes (09 to 25) in my opinion. Better fit and finish, great power, flawless idle, plus no plastic backplates. Great parts support as well. I have recently received parts for an old 1960's era Enya .09 engine. No one provides that level of parts support that I know of.

I believe Enya makes a .36 4-stroke in both Glow and Diesel, AAC cylinder construction. They also make the small 2-strokes with great parts support. Depending on the day, the exchange rate can be a bit high to the Yen but I'd spend my money there before I buy from any of the other Japanese engine companies without question.

The distributors are only going to supply what sells quickly. If there is little market for smaller IC engines, they will (are) disappear from the marketplace.
Vendors like mecoa http://www.mecoa.com/kb/aero/aircraft.htm may soon be the only places to purchase smaller sized engines

Don't forget AP, ASP, Magnum and Norvel (NV) . I think Global Distributors, Hobbypartz, Hobby King, or Hobby People may have some of these in stock randomly. If you don't buy them, no one will carry them. I would say there is Fox, but that seems to have dried up now too. Cox is still kicking, as well as Novarossi Cyclon and Fora. MMMMM Novarossi.

I understand that even sales of electric motors is down. Though quadcopter sales are up. The latest generation would rather buy a quadcopter that they can control with their cell phone.

I am grabbing all the glow engines I can , the Thunder Tiger GP18 got away from me for example. It was on the market for how long? Either it was a complete POS(which I find hard to believe from a TT product) or the timing of its release was just horrible.

That is fun. Just being honest, but it's a blast to fly FPV indoors. A student brought his and I got to fly it. The AR Drone is addictive. If you dig into the info you can find videos on storing GPS waypoints, programming flight paths, doing obstacle avoidance, and auto searching for placards of certain colors. The programming possibilities are endless. You can literally program one to take off on autopilot in your office on an upper floor, fly down stairwells, and follow hallways to film someone else in their office and return to your desk. I almost convinced my boss to let us teach a class on flying and programming these things. I'm not an electric guy, but I did teach a course on flying indoor electrics so I made good money doing that. I really wish we could have gone the quad copter route for classes.

Did Fox say they would make new engines when they catch up on their contract orders? I didn't ask but though maybe someone else did. Also is Mecoa ever going to make anything again?

With the 10cc, 20cc, and 30cc gas engines, big glow is fading even faster. It's just cheaper to run gas. Glow will hold the .40cu to .60cu niche for a while but is definitely getting squeezed from the small end by electric and big end by gas. I was at a swap meet, and this was a couple years ago, and a guy had 1.8cu big-***** glow engine, he almost had to give it away; I think he got maybe $35 for it. It just costs to much for glow fuel to run it.

For S's & G's I'm gonna fire up my big Fox twin cylinder 1.20 this weekend. 2oz/min at WOT. It's set up with high nitro heads (15-25%). I'm making new heads to set it up for 0-5% fuel so it should suck a bit less fuel. I could only imagine how much fuel a guy could burn in a day using 25% nitro and two 10cc cylinders let alone a 1.8 or 2.2.

I love to go to swap meets and buy glow engines for pennies on the dollar from all the guys switching over to gas or electric. I just agree with them that nobody will buy their engines, better sell me that NIB .46FX for $20.00 while you still can!
Glow fuel around here is under $20 per gallon and as most of my planes are .15 size and smaller, a case of fuel goes a looooong way!
Glow is cheap as long as you restrain yourself from big engines and big planes.
