Default OS 50 questions

Hello again,

Well after getting my 46 apart thanks to help from forum members here I thought I might take apart an old OS 50 I picked up second hand. I figured the bearings might be the same size so if they both need them I may as well buy them at the same time.

I have the motor mostly torn down, but the main bearing remained in the case this time so I am going to heat it and bang it on a piece of wood to try to dislodge it. Can anyone tell me if this motor was any good in its day, it has a ring that is right at the top of the piston and the carb has 5b on it. The front bearing looks and feels shiny new but rear bearing has rust on the cage and feels just a tiny bit rough, the rest of the motor looks to be in very good shape other than part of the fins on the front of the head being ground off from nosing over on an asphalt runway.

thanks,
Calvi

It would help to add the model identifier. It's usually cast into the crankcase on the outside. OS has made hundreds of different models, with some displacements categories having a dozen or more models. Example 50SX, 46SF etc

They're all OS Max. There's usually a two-letter model identifier like what I used as examples in my last post. If there are no identifiers, post some pictures of the crankcase?

Looks like an old FSR. The FSR is said to be the best or one of the best series' of engines OS ever did. They are highly coveted.

Ok one more question, should I source the bearings out at the local hobby shop, local bearing jobber, or online? I found a place called RcBearings.com, has anyone dealt with them or can anyone recommend an online supplier?

Thanks

I use RCBearings.com almost exclusively. Good company to work with and great prices. Boca Bearings is another supplier, but their prices are quite exuberant on a lot of sets.

Thanks, I already ordered from RCBearings, I still have a RJL 61 and a couple 46 FX's to do so I may give them a try.

Sounds like a Dykes ring? I didn't know OS ever used such a ring. Never to late to learn something/

Sincerely, Richard

Where do you think I could find one Fiery? I came across someone who sells rings while reading a thread here but forgot to write it down, will have to do a search.

Cal, the only Dykes type ring I can find for an OS FRS is for a .45, all the .50 rings I can find are conventional. This one is on E-Bay just search OS 45 Dykes ring.
