You mean the ST2300? (23cc engine)  That will take the pup up vertically.
The 20cc ST will have more than enough power as well.

The supertigre G20/23 is also known as the G2300 and has 23cc.
see the ST FAQ at http://www.supertigre.com/faq/product-faq.html , then search the page for G2300 for fuel needed and carb setting.
See the engine at http://www.supertigre.com/engines/supg0248.html

PS
The ST G20-.23 is a .23 engine of the G20 series (2.5cc, 3.0cc and 3.7cc). This makes the engine notation quite confusing.

The H9 1/4 scale Cub suggested engine size range is 1.00–1.60 2-stroke; 1.20–1.80 4-stroke; 20–26cc gas

So your ST 2300 will work fine on the plane. No problem with the power for it. A ST 2300 is about a 1.50 size engine in cubic inches.

Hi Pe
I have to take issue with one of your statements or maybe I am misreading it. I have a very early G20-23 that is 23cc. It is a relatively small case engine as compared to the G20 series of motors and there for not part of that group of motors. I also have 2300 Mark 2 ( Chinese made) G20-23. Both are excellent motors. I never saw or was aware of a 23cc version of the larger case G20 series.

You seem to miss the dot (.) in the G20-.23 designation, and NO, the G2300 is not at all the G20 series of the old days. The G2300 has a steel sleeve and piston ring + Schnuerle porting, The G20-.XX had none of those. See http://www.craftsmanshipmuseum.com/Garofali.htm for the G20 beginnings. Later, ST used the G-designation for Glow engines in general, and the X-designation for racing engines. All in all, the G-designation is a perfect mess as far as ST is concerned.

I have flown the 2300 a lot using an 18x10 menz-S props in a glider tug. Very powerful!

ST's websote on the 2300 engines http://www.supertigre.com/engines/supg0248.html

They put in a Stylized "G" surrounding the "20" and if I remember right, they stamp in a 23 or 2300 on one of the mounting lugs.
Yes quite confusing and helps keep us on our toes, so to speak.

That same G is in the G60, where it is the 60 in cubic inches / 100 (.60 engine) and others, in the G325 it was CC times 10, and in the G20 (2300) it is what????? This engine also is denoted as G2300 (cc times 100)
Those Italians slowly turned berserk and there is no system in their madness.

The ST 2300 should power the 1/4 Cub well.

There are quite a few people around using the G23. However, if inverted they are using an onboardglowigniter.
However, after being broken in completely (a gallon of fuel should do it) the ignitor need not be used to run inverted.
Take a day and break that baby in.

I did the same thing with mu ST3000. never used and ignitor but broke it in thoroughly and use a fox miricle plug.........use them on all my engines.......never have problems...even my 4 strokes. I'm turning an 18 x 10 on the ST3000 and running it at 1/4 throttle on Bud Nosen 105 inch Aeronca.
Have fun and Good Luck...Sebo

On my inverted st2300 I made a prime connection to the back cover. Used a syringe to inject 0.5cc of fuel to prime the engine. This would always give very reliable starts.

Yes I missed the (.). That changes the whole conversation.

Even as frustrating as the confusing way they I.D.ed their engines was the way they changed the design of the internals without changing the ID of the engine. My four .40 RR rat race engines all had different crankshaft and rotor valve configurations and the parts were not interchangeable. Same with my RR.15s I used for Goodyear racing.

I got my first ST2300 in about 1995. It came to a hobby shop in Atlanta Georgia in a shipment of Super Tigre stuff. The hobby shop owner wasn't expecting it and didn't know what it was. Seems it hadn't been advertized yet. The box said it was a G20-23. It was much smaller than the G20/25 series of engines. We could find nothing that gave it's displacement other than the stylized G20 on the case. Nothing in the paperwork or stamped any where on the engine. I took it home assuming I bought a 1.20 (20cc) motor in a new much smaller crankcase. I decided to measure it and found I had a 1.4 ci (23cc) engine. Around 2000 I finally built and airplane for it, the Balsa Nova you see in my Avatar. Years latter when engine production moved to China I bought the Chinese version. It is identical to my Italian motor in all internal measurements including the carb except for the crankshaft and muffler. The Chinese muffler rear cone is blunted and the crankshaft is 5mm longer (a much needed change). It is now powering the Balsa Nova and runs identical to the Italian motor.

The china made engine have received good credits. They also seem to have reversed the goof ST made with their carb drum translation movement.

I also have 2 made in China but haven't had the opportunity to run them thus I can't make an evaluation on them.

Just to add another thought here, the G20/23 had a reputation for a touchy carb, especially with the pattern guys who like to use the throttle. Mid-range was not too terrific. Various fixes are out there, but one of the best was to replace the carb with the Perry carb and probably also the pump. I last looked into this a couple years back and they were still available, just have not pulled the trigger on it yet as I have no plane for this motor.

Hope this helps someone out.
