How's everybody doing? anyone still running Irvine engines? I'm going to try and fly a strong 36 in a Sig Smith Miniplane at about five pounds, any thoughts

I haven't found anything bad about mine. It starts easily, throttles up and down perfectly, it's very powerful, and it's only 12 oz with muffler. On top of that, the muffler is pretty good. I have flown it on an old Sterling Fledgling that weighs about 4 1/2 pounds and it really takes it up, not OOS, but very strong, steep climb. It's stronger than most 40s that were current at the time the kit came out, while weighing a little less than most.
Mine turns an MA 11x5 at 12,000 rpm. It would probably put out more power on a 10x5, as above, but might be less aerodynamically efficient on your bipe. An 11x4 might be a good choice. Experiment with props.
