ys 185 non cdi
i'm in the process of breaking the engine in, my question is who on here has one without the cdi unit. wheres your needles set and do you have the regulator flush like the old ys's? Right now my regulator screw is flushed and the needle valve is set to 4 turns out which i thought was too much but the engine runs good.. i have a 19x11 apc but no rpm tach so i was wondering what rpms and props you guy use as well thanks

Read the section titled High Speed Needle setting, you should be at 2 turns out to start and end up between one and one and a half turns out, 1/8th turn out from the peak. This is at Central Hobbies/YS engines.

I wouldn't worry about where your needle setting is. as long as your not over 5.5 or 6 turns should be ok. One engine maybe be at 1 turn out and another at 2 turns. A lot depends on fuel, prop, and if any restrictions in the tank to the engine. You need a high flow filter if running one. I have one in my pattern plane and run a 20x10.5 or a 20.5x10 prop around 7,000 or so on 20-30% fuel. I think my pump is around 1/2 to 1 turn out from flush.
