Webra .50 GT
I have read a lot about this engine...all good.
OK, what's the scoop? ...Is it a 'speed' only engine or can it be successfully used for a 3D application? Product descriptions say to use an 11x4 prop...period...with this engine. Could it survive using an APC 12.25 x 3.75? ...and run quite well while doing so?

Hi!
The Webra .50 is just a very good sport engine ...no special speed engine. A 11x4 is way to small for this engine...someone must be joking[>:]!
11x5-12.25x3.75 is perfect for it and 0-5% nitro is all it will ever need.

Friend has 2 SE's both with Webra 50's and APC 11x5 props and they rock. Excellent transition and vertical for the SE.

Both of mine have excellent idle and transition. For quicker throttle response for 3D type flying I prefer the APC 12x4 because it has less mass, and it will rev quite a bit higher with that prop, like at least 1000 r.p.m. more.
You probably saw the other 2 recent threads Gene? I know a Magic Extra will go straight up like a rocket with a Webra .50 and 12x4 on 10% and idle like a dream with virtually instantaneous throttle response...

My Webra 50 handles an APC 12.25x3.75 great. I have it on a Burrito profile. Some folks like the 12x4 or 11.5x4 better for 3D, but mine has done so well with the 12.25x3.75 that I have not bothered to experiment.
If posts in the Fun Fly forum are an accurate gauge, the Webra 50 and the Irvine 53 are the top dogs in the 2 stroke group for 40 size profiles.

the OS 50 and the webra 50 essentially tied. Comments regarding the need for lots of tinkering with the Webra lead me to the OS 50. Gordo loves them after 2 Webras didn't deliver.

Well, I am sure Gene realizes that an engine is only as finicky as its operator allows... I have had the Irvine-53, Webra-50GT, OS-50SX and many others---- a case can be made for all of them!
The Webra and Irvine are similar in power but the Webra is obviously lighter and physically smaller- I run the Webra on a Patriot but have run the 12.25x3.75 and it hummed along.... 11x4 IS small

Well I have run two Webra .40GT:s during the last 10 years and both have been very easy to set and tune....0-5% nitro is all they want to perform.
Over here in Sweden The webra .40 is regarded to be the most powerful .40 engine available in Q-500 pylonracing. ( we only allow standard sport engines with silencers and 0% nitro and just use 10x6 plastic props).
How anyone can have difficulties setting up one of these Webra (.40-.50)engines is is beyond my imagination as you don't have to touch the idle needle a bit to have the engine throttle just perfect.

I am fixing up this plane again so I will check the ground clearance for a larger prop. Have not flown it since 2007.
