Saito FA-60T
I'm going to build a Sig 1/5 Scale J-3 Cub, and mount a Saito 60T...seems like a good combo to me. Anyone have any experience with this engine? Got any tips I could use?
Thanks

RE: Saito FA-60T
I have the Sig 1/5th scale Cub with and the Saito 90 ts in it, I would go with the 90ts.
It is in no way over powered with the bigger engine and fits perfect with no mods to the airframe.
I did have problems with fuel draw at fisrt because of the low tank location but a Perry shaker pump on the firewall solves that.
I also have and onboard glow setup on there too for a good idle.
Great Kit and a Great flyin Cub.

RE: Saito FA-60T
Ive been looking into this combination also, but if you read the specs carefully the Saito 90TS weighs a little LESS than the 60T. For thst reason alone I'm gonna go with the 90TS.

RE: Saito FA-60T
I've already purchased the kit and the engine, and I'm going to stick with the 60T. LaCerne...if I'd noticed the weight difference I probably would have gone with the 90T...oh well. I think it'll be fine if I get the righ prop on it.
Any suggestions on where to find Robart main gear? I'm going to clip the wings and get a fiberglass cowl. Any suggestions for other good mods?
Thanks for the feedback!

RE: Saito FA-60T
I have the 60T on a GP RV-4, sweet little engine. At 6000', it turns an APC 12x8 @ 9200 peak, and a 13X7 @ 9400 peak on 30%. Will idle forever at 1500 RPM WITHOUT onboard glow, have gotten it to go as low as 1100 RPM breifly. Even at 6000', it will pull my 7 pound airplane around with authority, if tuned right. Very reliable too, without onboard glow, I have never had a cylinder die on me in the air.

According to an engine test, found at the web page below, the 90TS swings a 13 x 8 APC at 9.500 RPM on 15% Powermaster fuel.

RE: Saito FA-60T
Thanks Chuck
With the extras Robart Gear onboard glow and not so light wheels it's a little heavier than it would be just stock.
The 90ts is a near perfect fit and I fly it with a 14/6 wood Zinger prop running @ 8900 a little rich.
I don't really ever fly over 1/3 throttle most of the time for nice scale flight, but I do have enough power for nice big loops from level flight.
I DO think the 60ts would be fine for scale flying and you may need to dive a bit to get some speed for a nice loop with the 60.
The kit was one of the most fun kits I have build and Sig did a great job with it, builds light and fast.
I guess I could loose some weight by going to a smaller tank than a 14oz I have in there and a smaller onboard glow battery "D" thats in there.
But I did use the Batt to ballance the plane as the twin is on the heavy side for the size of the plane.
I like my set up and after flyin it this season I can't find anything I would change.
