Default RE: Magnum Engine

It seems Sanye's Magnum/ASP/SC/SY .52 XLS has the best bang for the buck.
These engines cost $100. The Jett is $235 and all the rest are also significantly more expensive than the Sanye China engines.

The GMS is made by another mainland China company; probably the same one that makes the Tower .46.
It is still cheaper than the Sanye but is significantly less powerful.

I don't know what quality bearings are in the Sanye, or the quality of their real chromium ABC setup, but China has gone very far, since the dubious quality "engines" they made, not too many years ago.

It is worth checking.

Say Spears, can you give us that list again? I seem to have missplaced the last two.

I'm impressed with the Tiger Shark .52....... I have the TS.52/Kangke Extra combo... using a 12.25X3.75 APC it gives me unlimited vertical..... I haven't tached it lately (the engine seems to be really coming alive), but 13,200 was my last reading.

I was kind of hoping to hear some comment on the West engines in comparison to the other makes. I owned one 2 stroke and then went to Saitos, this is my first two stroke in some time. I've heard it's an awesome engine, the 50T1 with throttle pipe, but how does it compare to the others y'all have mentioned? It's mounted (Hype 3d) but hasn't been fired up yet.

I am another one who actually "owns" an OS-50SX.

Break-in was exactly "By the book".

I have used this engine very hard for the last 15 months in a fun-fly plane. Mostly 3D stuff....

It was working real good till recently. Engine is not developing peak power. I have to run it real rich for it to run consistent. If I try to peak it, it cuts all the time.

I have a Thunder Tiger 46 Pro and am very happy with it. It's been flying a Starfire ARF for 2 years with no problems. Very reliable and strong. Four Star Recommendation! Bill (the guy with all the OS 90 4 stroke questions)

I would like to throw in another vote for the Webra 50. Lightest of the 50 size engines and among the most powerful too. Runs well on 15% nitro an never misses a beat. I have mine on a Morris TopCap and there is no lack for power especially doing 3D. The transistion from idle to full is lightning quick. Then there is the sound. No other engine sounds like a webra, you always know when someone starts a webra.

The West engines are hot rodded Webras. I hear that the West 50 T1 turns a 13x4W APC around 12000 rpm. This is hotter than my YS 63 on this prop.

Richard:
I totally agree with you on the CX. I have one and it kicks butt. I also have and OS .46FX. It is also a good engine, but if I have it to do over I would have bought another Enya. I can't comment on the OS SX so I won't. I believe the Enya may be a little on the heavy side, though, so maybe that's a consideration. For my money, I want something that will last and the Enya will.

As far as Clam's comment about popularity, it's sales and marketing my friend. It has nothing to do with quality, and you know it.

If your looking for reasonable cost with good performance go with the Enya 50 CX, ST 51 or the Webra 50. I have all 3 and all are very good. The Irvine and Magnum should be good too but I haven't run them. The old OS 50 FSR is also a great engine if you can find one. As far as break-in goes, I put mine on a plane, get it running and fly.

Hobbsy,

Fox does not appear to sell a 50 size engine anymore. The largest size they list on there site for sale is a 46BB ABC.

The best 50 size engines IMO are:

Webra 50
Irvine 53
MVVS 49
Rossi 53

If money is no object:

Jett 50
West 50 T1
West 50 V1

I have a OS 50 SX. It is a real good engine but I have trouble setting the high speed needle. Sometimes I have to turn it as much as half a turn either rich or lean to get a decent setting. Has anyone else had this trouble?

sounds like you have air in your fuel lines. can you see bubbles going into the engine? can you see them entering your needle valve? that would be a problem, and that would explain why your engine acts that way.

It sounds like almost every engine has its cheering section. I agree with the Webra crowd, power to weight ratio. The K&B .48 may out power it just slightly but is heavy (kind of like a Rossi). The only way to settle the arguement is to test them unloaded with the same props with the best fuel for the engine on the same day.
I've run engines that on one day will be world beaters and the next day were only average. Other engines turned the same RPM at peak every time I started them.
Hey clam, didn't they teach you in english to capitilize your "I" yet?

Ive just ordered an OS50SX, the LHS has them on special for only $20 AUD (about 12USD) more than the 46FX. I havent flown my FX yet but after reading these reports and a report from a fellow club member who recently upgraded, I just couldnt resist when my wife said,"You can get it if you want".

I would to for that price difference!

Remember the YS-45 folks... other than the Jett-50 it'd be my top choice!

Other powerhouses:

Webra-50
Rossi-45/53
MVVS-49
K&B-48
Irvine-53
West-50
OS-50SX
and ST-51
