I have not ordered them yet. I am told they are less expensive than the Mac's. I purchased the engines from Quantum Models. If I buy the Thunder Tiger Pipes I would order them from Quantum. Mac's has a listing for this engine for pipe application. If I remember correctly, Mac's lists a 16X14 prop in their testing for pipe lenghth. Don't hold me to this though, I have not been to their site for a while. If you have any other information to offer it would be greatly appreciated. My pipe selection is not immediate as I have quite a bit of building to do first. I would think that the Thunder Tiger header and pipe would be cut to lenght and ready to go as they offer this as an accessorie for the 1.20RP. Am I right or wrong???

Thanks, Tony

Me again,

If anyone is interested, Quantum Models has the Thunder Tiger 1.20RP rear exhaust pump engine on sale at $174.95!!!!!!!!!!
TT header #9767 is $30.95 and pipe #9712 is $94.99. Mac's has a header #4762 at $32.95 and a pipe #1092 at $114.95. Mac's shows a 16/14 prop at 8000RPM with a header length of 10.5". Buy the TT parts and save $22.00. I have no idea what the TT header length is. With that prop and a pipe you should be haulin butt!!!

Just received my engine from Quantum. It was missing the needle valve. Already sent emails kindly asking for one.

The manual shows the header and pipe that TT offers. I wonder how long and how queit the TT pipe is. Also, the header #9767, does not appear to be 10.5" long - this is the measurement Macs website showed for its setup. They do, however, show a straight piece of header pipe...not sure if you're supposed to attach that after the header and before the pipe. I'll see if I can scan a pic.

Here's the manual showing the tuned pipe options. It doesn't describe the pipe but it appears they have different headers available...

do you think that straight piece of pipe is to go behind the header and before the muffler? Mac's header length was 10.5" and this piece looks like it is to extend the header.

I'm probably going to get this engine, who makes the best header and pipe for it in the US? I like the Weston Genesis pipes,. but I don't know how to get them? A friend told me the pump on this engine rocks. Thanks, Jordan

This is a rear exhaust motor, isn't it? Is the header bent enough to work on most model airplanes where the back of the motor is so close to the firewall?

Yes, most pattern planes are designed for rear exhaust motors. The header will easily clear the structure. Check out some pics in the pattern forum for a typical installation. or go to a website like www.znline.com

For those installations where it will interfere, people have bent their own by heating the metal.

Quantum Models shows that the only Thunder Tiger header available is #9767. The centerline of the header pipe is 1.75" above the centerline of the exhaust port of the engine. They do not give a header pipe length. Mac's header has the same spec's and is to be tuned at 10.5" in length. I do not have information on the pipe itself from Thunder Tiger. I still do not know what pipe set-up I will use. I am however quite eager to run these engines. I have never heard of the Weston Genesis pipes. Do they offer a header for the TT 1.20RP? What does their pipe cost? How about some spec's on them.

Here's the page:http://www.westonuk.co.uk/aero.html. The VPMAP. 3 wolud fit fine with the TT header.
I think I might go with that setup. The big advantage of the genesis pipes is they're soooo light. And the prices are good too... if I could only find an importer...

Hey Guys,

What are your impresions about the engine?
Have you installed it in a model?
Any probs?
I have an oporturnity to get a NIB never run engine at a bargain price.
Is it any good or should I stay away?
I am planning to revamp and to install it in my 12+ years old SAPHIRE cause my Hano has a liner and piston prob after so many hours of use.
