Default 40 Engine choice for speed

I just ordered a Whiplash and I'm looking through the engines I have. My choices for a rear exhaust in my limited engine collection are a used OPS 40 and a NIB Super Tiger X40. I've never run the X40 so I'm looking for a little input on this engine and the choice for the Whiplash.

Go with the x40, these were great engines. Break it in carefully and you will be very pleased with the power. What is a whiplash? Is it like a Diamond Dust?

The Whiplash is a speed plane like the Diamond Dust. Reading in the web site it can do 200+ MPH

Tell me your recomendations as far as fuel and plug for the S.T. X40. I've had this engine in the box for a long time.

Default Want one??

I have one I'd let go...FIRE NIB, even has the blue head..no header or pipe, but I got a couple of headers from Macs for a pair of X45's. Let me know...$100 + $5 shipping.

Pete,

In term of good fuel, use PowerMaster 15% Nitro with 18% oil content in it. And, as for the Glow Plug, I would recommend a McCoy #9 because it's a cold plug and made for racing purpose (Especially with the RPM you're going to run). Hope this help.

Happy flying!

I agree , McCoy #9. Any good fuel that has the 18% - 21% oil content listed should work. I have also heard from some DF Jet fliers that an ounce of Turbine oil added to a gallon of fuel will help with longevity of high performance engines.

The Super Tigre X40 is a gorgeous engine. So sad to see ST go the way they went when GP took them over. What a wonderful history and great line of engines. I sure WISH I had bought one when I had the chance.
I don't really know which is the most powerful but I know when an engine has real SEX appeal and the ST X-40 with a True Turn spinner Ahh Ahhhhh OOOOhhhh , I need a cigarette

Hey,
I've never heard of this engine. Would you mind posting a picture if you can? I may be interested, as I'll be getting a Whiplash soon! Thanks

Default R/C Carb for X40

Hi all, I have two X40's that i used to race with back in the early 80's in the Uk, but have been sitting in theirs boxes ever since, they have a rear mounted intake and i was wondering if anyone knew what R/C carb would fit these engines, i would to get them back in the air, but with throttle control :stupid:
I plan to fit the x40 back into my FAI F1 pylon racer.

I hope you can help

thanx
