Default Where is the low speed carb adjust on Saito 120

I have an "older" Saito 120 FA that I was given 2 years ago. It ran about 6months ago. I have it on a plane and took it to the field to try it out. We got it running but the idle was very rough and unreliable, so I went home. The guy that gave it to me says (on the phone) don't mess with the low end adjust, install onboard power to the glow (a C battery with an alligator clip on the glow plug). From what I read here it sounds like most of you get good idle without onboard glow power by properly setting the low speed mixture. My club is Saito clueless and we can't be sure which dohicky is the low speed mixture adjuster. The high speed needle is obvious. There is a small adjustable screw on the carb - is that is?

You should find a gold colored 1/8 inch slotted screw in the center of the throttle arm. Clockwise leans the mixture and counter clockwise riches the mixture. Not the best picture

Allow me to offer this better picture....the idle adj. is on the opposite
side of the carb from the high speed needle. It sounds like your engine
is running too rich.

Dave.

Thanks for the nice pictures. My carb doesn't look like yoursexactly. With the engine upright there is a small adjustable screw with a spring located aft of your slot screw about the same height. It screws into a bulge on the casting that has the throttle arm and on the opposite side of the engine from the needle valve. The screw is parralel to the throttle arm. I screwed it all the way in and got 3 turns. I took it out and it is flat on the bottom, not a taper and point. I guess it is the thing I am looking for.

Sounds like an airbleed carb, set the screw in question halfway across the hole then set up your highspeed needle. When you're satisfied with the highspeed adjust the airbleed for the smoothest idle, it's basically just an idle trim to make up for mfg tolerances, different fuels and props.

Jack....

....Yes, the ones I showed were on Magnum engines, but the location is the
same, if you have a double needle carb. Hobs says you may have an airbleed carb.

Dave.
