Default Saito 100 vs 91

Is the Saito 100 that much more powerful than the 91? I plan on building a Funaero Albatross and kit calls for a 91 but was considering a 100, wondered if it was worth the $50 extra cost. Other than cost both engines seem to be about same size and weight.
Any opinions or experience on this subject? Thanks Flipstart

The 100 is considerably more powerful than the .91 using a 15x6 or 14x8 as opposed to a 14x6 for the .91, the 100 is very nearly as strong as the 120.

the saito 100 has virtually replaced the 91 and rendered it obsolete

much like the ys110 replaced the ys 91

and the ys140 sport replaced the ys120

I have Saito 91 but not 100.
The specification charts say that the power difference between them is only 0.1 hp (1.7hp against 1.8hp)
At the same time there are a lot of people here in RC Online who has trouble with Saito 100.

The 91 will also turn 15x6 or 14x8 at reasonable rpm.

Hi.
From my experience, it highly debatable whether the 100 is much better than the 91, for a start the 100 at 610gms against 550gms for the 91, this is my own measurements on a calibrated digital scale, so there is a weight difference in spite of what the specs say, also the 100 is quite a bit taller and wider than the 91.
As regards power from my own prop tests the 100 is only giving about .1hp more than the 91, imho the 91 is about the best power to weight ratio in it's class and I think in the near future we will see a new Saito based on the 100 cank case at around 115-120 capacity and that will probably be a real cracker.
Cheers.

This is so NOT true! Take a look at the other messages. Let me summarize:
- the 91 is smaller than the 100.
- the 91 weighs less than the 100
- the 91 costs less than the 100.
- the 91 is less power than the 100 (although only marginally so).

thus- if you need a lightweight & powerful 91, get the 91. If you absolutely need extra power, pay the extra money , weight and size, and get the 100.

BTW- I have both a Saito 91 and 100.

Flysforfun.
As you can see I am with you on this one, I also have 2 91's and 1 100, of course the interesting comparison is the Saito91 and YS63 which I have also.
Cheers.

This has been interesting so far. I too have been considering a 100, but the current threads on problems have yet to convince to get one.

I have a question for y'all. (Yes, SA means San Antonio. Excuse me, please).

Do you guys use 15% Helicopter fuel in your Saitos? What fuel brand do you use and what nitro percentage? I'm curious.

thanks,
SA Flyer

What problems? I have owned 2 100's and have loved both of them. Got both to idle around 1800 rpms and both always started right up with a flip...
