old os 60FS
Hi
An older gentleman stopped by our flying field, trying to sell a old OS-60fs, it was NIB and looked like a two stroke with exposed rocker arms and rocker shafts. I think the engine was from the early 60's.
He wanted $300.00 for the engine, is that a good deal.
Thanks
Bill

Not unless you're a collector.
There are two of these stiill being flown at a local field here. Great old engines, but they have the power of a so-so .40 two stroke; on a good day.
So, unless you want to do the nostalgia thing, 300 bones would buy you any of the current, more powerful engines in that size range, with change left over.

Being from the TVC area...the guy selling that FS.60 must need to make a mortgage payment on his Grand Traverse Bay
property. Or...maybe he just needs medical treatment.
I'm with Mr. Campbell on this one. That motor isn't worth $300 even if you are a collector.
$100-150 tops.
It's a good motor no doubt, but his asking price is WAY out of line.
Let him dream.

RE: old os 60FS
Well that all depends....
The first model OS FS-60 had a barstock head, carb, and rocker arms. Pretty rare too, THAT one is easily worth the 3 bills.
Second model is the same as the one above except for the cast rocker arms. That one is worth 250 or 300 is it is MINT with the factory air still in the box.
Last model had cast head, a downward tilted cast carb and cast rockers. Worth about 150 NIB

If it is the original one $300 is probably a steal. Exposed rockers? This is the very first four stroke sold commercially. These are rare, haven't seen one flying since the late 80's or so.
But if not a collector then it is an investment. Buy it and put it in a fire proof safe.
