Hi!
Without a throttle it is definitely a Russian CL combat engine.

The magnum looks good. Didnt know if they made one stronger or not. The FP was a go getter. Had a lot of fun with that engine on my wild thing, but I think I destroyed it this weekend. Started it after a landing in the dirt. Thought it was cleaned out well but it is turning very hard now so I am thinking it had some inside. Pretty well destroyed that engine.

The Magnum is supposed to be a little screamer. I'm gonna put
one in a Sig wonder, one of these days. They go on sale all the time
for $45.00, and the parts are in stock and cheap.

The mecoa Cox is unavailable, and it looks like they won't be making more.
The hottest .15 is the Nelson. Since the QM15 racing class was disbanded, I don't think Henry makes them anymore, but I'm betting if you put out a little effort looking for a used one, you could propbably find a fair deal on one. Just make sure you have a good set of earplugs.

Nelsons are near the top. If you can get one of the Irvine specials, they are a top end speed engine. I think most of the high performance people in CL speed, Racing, and FAI combat are using various Former Soviet Union engines. Same is true for FAI freeflight. If you can find a Rossi, they were the cat's pajamas some time back. I take it you want to listen to 30-40,000 RPM's. You'll need a pipe to get the ultimate performance. Some of the Russian combat and freeflight engines turn 30K without a pipe. There are a couple on ebay at the moment.

Looks crude but a FOX .15 has lots of guts. Mine turned a mas 8x4 at 15,500rpm (500rpm below peak). Turned a mas 9x4 at 13,000rpm as a diesel conversion.

FLYBOY,
I think the TT would be a drop-in replacement for your FP. MVVS is another good one I didn't see listed.
To answer your question, do you want a replacement for your FP or do you really want a more powerful engine. Also, how much are you willing to pay. Some of the engines, like the NovaRossi and some of the ones listed previously are for competition and cost some serious buck$.

Jim is right. You're going to need a couple of Fox or Magnums to equal just one of the Russian FF/CL engines. Of the more easily bought, you'd have to go for the Irvine special (one of them holds the current world speed record at 208mph).

The Norvel 15 is a nice running engine, but doesn't have a lot of power. It is also fairly easy on fuel, but most low power engines only sip fuel. The original post was asking for power. I think that the most powerful 15s are the Nova Rossi, the MVVS, the Nelson, the Conquest, and the Irvine Special. I'm sure I have left out a few, but all of the above engines should be able to turn in the 30K range.

Flyboy,
You can try the MVVS. It is true ABC, with a side, or rear exhaust option (on the same engine).
It can actually spin a 7x4 at 22,500 RPM and if you shop right, will cost less than a Norvel.
Ask Dave (ZAGNUT).

Dar,
When did they switch to the blue heads? Looks classy.
I have one glow and two diesels in the .15 size. All run well.
Mine are the older aluminum head engines. The glow is throttled, one diesel I bought throttled but switched to venturi, the other diesel was bought with venturi. All kept as side exhaust.

George,
They changed to the anodized blue head and prop-driver about two years ago, but some dealers went on selling older stock.
I never actually saw a bare headed example.

Hello!
The Mazniak and Cyclon .15 engines will eat any old MVVS or Rossi alive.
They turn a small 6,3/8"x3,1/2 carbon prop at arpund 30000rpm and do it with total reliability and no running in time.
Get one and experience what modern 2,5cc glow engines are all about.
Regards!

The carb really looks interesting. Does it idle well with the .07 prop on it? Does it use a slide valve or what. The original poster wanted a 15 with a carb and front needle.
The engine pictured looks more like a FAI combat engine than a throttled R/C engine.
