RE: Glow Engines have a 15 hour life?
ok,for what it's worth,i have engines that are over 30 years old and still run like they just came out of the box! i guess it depends on the operator and how he runs them.

As pointed out "hot and lean" will wear it out fast . The folks running nitro rc cars may not even see 15 hrs. I make it a point to add 2 or 3% castor to all my glow fuels. It would be interesting to see the the life expections of diesels since they run cooler and kero fuel mixes have a great lube action.

I had over 200 hours on my MDS .68 when I sold the airplane. Engine was starting to show its age by being about 300 rpm off of its max rpm when newer.
I think that crashes prevent many people from determining their engine's actual live.
I don't buy the 15 hour story. I've put that many hours on an engine in a week.

Cogburn,
A life of 15 hours, even for a glow plug, is also too short.
One older MVVS that I have, with nearly 50 hours on it (My daughter flew that model) still has the original glow plug it came with.
It still starts first flip every time, on 5% nitro.

I used to be into NITRO cars a lot, average engine life span was about 4-5months (as noted by actual use) ... mine lasted about 9 and this is because I do not run it that lean. Want more power? Then your engines will not last. Last week we got this hot shot pilot (real pilot), he flies a CAP RC plane and only has 2 throttle settings, OFF or FULL. He flies hard as he can't fly at all. After like 5 mins of flight he complains that the engine is not running properly, takes out the canopy to check for so called fuel leak etc etc etc. He was over leaning the engine, it had over heated. Duh~ His prop is too small and he pushes the engine too hard ... yeah his engines will last 15 hours.
Like Dar says ... 15 hours for a plane plug is too short!
