Default MECOA 46 or GMS 47 ??

On the MECOA website you can buy either one of these engines for $49.99 with a trade in.

Based on your experiences, which one is a better engine? My main concern is reliability and ease of use.

MECOA.. we have had at least 3 or 4 mecoa 46 (comapered to one GMS) but the mecoas were good teh GMS was hard to lepp on a settting (more needle fidgeting), with good power and easy to break in...
Ia m going to put one in a skyvista I am fixing for my son. S+H is 8.99 so the total is 58.98 for the engine with the trade in...

I had very good results with the GMS .47 that I had several yrs ago. The new ones come with a tuned muffler and should be even better. Virtualy the same engine as a
Tower .46

I have two of these Mecoa 46 engines and both are very reliable. They are easy to start once you break them in acorrding to the directions, and both have a very good idle. These engines are a good mid-of-the road engine. They are by no way a power house. They will give you many good flights if taken care of.

I have just ordered a SK-50 from Kangkeusa.com for $49.95 plus $4.95 shipping. One on my friends in my RC club has one of these engines that he is running on a VMAR ugly stick that has a 60" wing span and the plane will go striaght up out of sight. After seeing that I desided to give one a try.

Thanks

How long has your friend had his SK engine?
Does it start easy (hand start?, electric start?) and have a reliable idle?

how long have you had your MECOA 46's? Do you hand start them, or use and electric starter?

Once you get your SK, make sure you update us and how it is.

I start My Mecoa 46's with a Tower Hobbies electric starter. I use Omega 10% fuel with a Syn-castrol mix(made by Cool Power). I cover the verturi with my thunb and flip the prop 4 or 5 times until I am sure there is fuel in the carb. I then put on my glow starter and hit it with the electric starter and the Mecoa's have always started right up. I had a few dead sticks until I got the low end set just right and know they both are very good engines. I use an APC 11x6 prop on them and I get 11,000 RPM on both engines.

I should be getting the SK-50 engine in this week. And if she runs like my Tiger Shark 52 I got from Kangke I should be getting 12,500 with an 11x7 APC prop. That is whay my friend is getting on his SK-50 using 15% Byron fuel. My friend has had his SK-50 since last Nov. and he as never had a dead stick yet according to him.

Thanks

jstanton: How is the physical size of the SK compared to a .46? Are the mounting holes similar or is it in a much bigger case?

SJC

It is the same size as any 46 engine. It just has a bigger bore the the 46's. My Tiger Sherk 52 fits in ay size 40 or 46 are frame as does the SK-50.

I hope this helps. The people at Kangke are very helpful. They even sent me a new carb for my Tiger Shark 52 when I could not get the idle to work. The new carb solved my problem and I'm one of the devoted customers after that. They stand behind thier 2 year warranty on thier engines

Thanks

I've got two Mecoa .46's, and both run great. One's in a GP Corsair and the other's in a Spitfire. Neither of them have ever dead sticked on me. I'd rate it up there with any other sport .46.
