Help motor ID large glow
I have picked up a swap meet special and have run into dead ends looking for info. I tried searching the web and I have tried searching within this forum with no luck. THe motor is German made. By the Bore (33.97mm) and stroke (25.7mm) it is a 1.42 CID short stroke motor. IT has a side carb (2 needle) and a side exhaust. The head has a hemi shape to it. It has a single ring and a large one piece torpedo style muffle and a round Aluminum motor mount with Q2 marked on the bottom face of the mount.
Markings on the motor are "Suevia gmbH
576
made in Germany - W"
it weighs just a tad under 3 pounds with mount, muffler, and motor
I would ASSUME it is a low nitro high compression motor.
any IDEAS????
Thanks
Terry

Yep, what you have there is a German Suevia 1.5 ci (24,6 cc) glow engine. Depending on the version, it could have a black anodized head, or a three needle carb. Either are OK, it will not like any more than 5% nitro though, so don't try.
Brute of an engine, I think they were discontinued in the 80's.
Good Luck with your new toys.

The SUEVIA engines were imported into the U.S. by HOBBY LOBBY. I'm pretty sure that Clarence Lee did a review on them. If HL is still in business, you may be able to get some info from their archives - or try an eMail to Clarence. Was a nice looking engine.

TimC and ZagNut you both hit the nail on the head, can anyone tell me what to expect out of this? $157 on eeewbay huh, maybe I should list this one, na that would not be any fun, I want to fire this thing up an see what it will do. I have it next to a OS .61 Helicopter motor to show the size of it.

Ha! I got top billing. " Starring TimC and in a supporting role............ZagNut." My favorite thing in this hobby is finding an old engine and dinking around with it. Your's doesn't look like it needs any restoration though. Nice find Terry. Be sure and post how it runs.
