Home brew smoke on YS .63?
Hey guys,
I have had an idea tell me what you think, i want to make a cheap smoke system.
I want to put some coils around the mufler to preheat the oil then inject into the front of the muffler, i dont want to use a pump rather just the airpressure already supplied by the engine for the fuel, that way all i need to do is put a small solenoid valve and a check valve on the oil line. also the nossle inside the muffler i was thinking of crimping heaveily so the spray atomizes.
So those knowledgeable in smoke sytems,
Do i need to preheat the oil?
Will the air pressure of the engine push the oil out?
And is my idea of trying to get a nossle to atomize the spray of oil the best way of doing it?
Attached is a pic of what my idea could look like

I think you may have trouble pushing Smoke oil into The exhaust with exhaust pressure, I reckon you will probably need a pump of some sort. The rest of the idea seems alright.

I'm guessing the pressure from the front of ys's is greater than the exhaust pressure. So hopefully a pump will not be needed

I'm walking the same path with a YS 91. Follow this link and it will give you a video walk through to put together your smoke system. The only change RCDON had for me with a YS was to simply install a tee and an additional check valve in the pressure line. I've already priced the system out at Tower and it will come in around $90.00.

dennis can you make a web page of that movie with lots of pics its ver imformative. do you think coils wrapped around the muffler will produce enough preheating?

I'm banking on it. I've not completed my system yet, but plan to soon. Like the video said, I plan to use some fiberglass and alumn tape to insulate the coils. This is my first smoke system, so I'm learning as I go.

Here is a plumbing schematic that I have been using for years and it works great! Just make sure to turn the smoke off as soon as the smoke oil runs out or your YS will run lean. Print the schematic to get a better picture. ALso I attached a picture of my Yellow Aircraft Edge with the smoke system installed. I have never had to wrap coils around the muffler te get enough heat. The YS engines have enough heat without the coils.
