Default NEW SAITO 2.2

Ok this might be a bit pre mature, not sure if these are out yet but lets hear from anyone that might know about them.
Dispite the 1.80 being basically a turd, i am looking at this new addition and hoping for the best. We need a 4 stroke alternative to the 2 strokes out there like the os 1.60 and moki 1.8.

Well C, if you don't like the 180, I'm sure you won't like the 2.20 either. The 180 is a fine engine.

my only problem with the 1.80 is low power, ive had 3 of em and my Ys 110 will outturn the same prop over the saito 180. I am very optimistic about the 2.2 I love most saitos

C, you'd better go read the Tachometer readings in the Tachometer Readings Forum before making that claim, maybe your Saito was a 120.

gee.... what's that, a 15-6 ???? Let's see your 110 turn a 17-8 APC at over 9000 on 15% fuel!!!

thats too small a prop dude, you may want to try an apc 17-6 on the ys 110 it pulls stumps out, I am quite certain all 3 of my 1.80 saitos were what they were stamped

One of our club pilots has just got the 2.2. Although it hasn't fully broken in yet, here is a bit of first hand info on the Saito.
RPM reading : With a Mejzlik 19x8 : 9100rpm
Mejzlik 20x8 : 8200rpm
Muffler : Standard Saito
Fuel : Klotz 23% Nitro
Plug : Saito SS (This is a new plug from Saito, as good as or even better than well proven OS-F)
Fuel consumption : It uses a fair bit more than YS-160DZ, in other words a 700cc tank is required for 10min. sports flying.
This should be improved as it gets fully broken in, hopefully.
Vibration level : Since it was hard mounted on a Saito solid alloy engine mount, it's hard to compare with my soft mounted
YS-DZ, however, it appears that the 2.2 shakes much more than the DZ, as much as an Enya 1.55 from my
experiences.
A note on the pump system : Unlike fully developed and proven YS system, a Saito system asks fliers for different approach.
For example, balancing between the high speed needle and pressure control valve setting depending
upon application or your preferred flying style plays an important role here. A high pressure setting
for sports aerobatics or low pressure configuration which results mild throttle response for more
scale like flying.
The 2.2 is not for every one indeed. It's an expensive power plant to purchase and to run. However, it's in the class of it's own,
and yes, Id like to mention that I love it's exhaust sounds. It's wild, but sweet !

I was getting 8k out of my Moki 1.8 using the Mejzlik 19x8 on 5%. The Moki's are smooth though.

My Saito 180 shakes alot using a soft mount. I will see what happens hard mounted.

Seems to me that the YS 110 is about as powerful as a OS 108 using the same fuel.

I can't wait to read about the fuel consumption on 23% nitro!

I fly the 1.8's on two big birds and they are definitely not short on power. I am considering the 2.2 for the 27% extra vs. a gas burner. Power to weight is the issue. If the 2.2 is anything like the 1.8 but more power,, sign me up for a new one.. that is just as soon as we find a new field. Jim
