RE: OPS Maxi 30cc Engine
I owned one for several years. Very long stroke, very tall engine. Hard to hide in a cowl.
Power slightly less than a ST 3000. I found an 18-10 prop to be best, but it will turn a large prop.
Will run on no-nitro fuel, but also does well on 10%.
Hand starts easily if primed and slapped backwards. Usually 1 flip.
Has a pumper carb so tank can be anywhere. The engine doesn't react instantly when you turn a needle so you have to get used to adjusting. If you try to adjust like a standard glow engine, you'll get frustrated. You have to turn a little, then wait for it to take effect.
Not many mufflers available. I recall I made an adapter for others.

RE: OPS Maxi 30cc Engine
Hello Ed,
Thankyou very much for your info, that is very helpful. The engine im looking at is only $150AU. It just seems a tad cheap for an engine of this capacity. What are your thoughts on that?

RE: OPS Maxi 30cc Engine
A fellow club member has one of these engines (with a tuned pipe!) It hasn't operated in the past year because it is need of repair and he hasn't found a source for parts. Does anyone know where one could buy parts for this engine???

Ed, mine came with a copper looking header and a huge expansion type muffler that is surprisingly quiet. Because of its long stroke I keep thinking it would make a fine Diesel.

RE: OPS Maxi 30cc Engine
We have done plenty of searching for this engine and can't find a supplier for parts or service anywhere. Hit a few dead links and lots of info on some of the smaller AC engines, car engines and boat engines. Almost no info on the larger engines at all.

RE: OPS Maxi 30cc Engine
The OPS 30 is no taller then a ST 3K. The massive fins do make it appear much bulkier and taller. Powerwise is performs exactly the same as aST3K. Big mistake is to use more then 5-7% oil in it. That will definitely slow the motor down. It has roller bearings on the rod so your not going to fry the thing.
That said I have 2 of them. One is NIB and the other has quite a bit of running on it but is in pretty decent shape.
Also have an OPS twin. Point on interest is that these are so well made that they should never wear out under normal operating conditions.
I'll sell the NIB as I don't get much opportunity to run large models anymore.

Edit: Spelling natch

Wait, wait, wait. I had several 3000s and one of the OPS Maxi 30s and it is definitely taller from the mount beams up.
I have used 0% nitro & 5% oil Cool Power in my Maxi 30, but regular 10% RC fuel runs good, too.
I don't know how much boost you are going to get from a tuned pipe, some, but not much. The engine has a low exhaust port for loads of torque. This makes it harder to get boost from a tuned pipe. They like a high exhaust port.

RE: OPS Maxi 30cc Engine
I had my NIB OPS 30cc converted to gas by CH. That cost me $275. I have flown it in two different models, currently in a Aeroworks Extra Profile 80". It swings a 20X8 OR 20X10 the same rpm: 7.5k. I imagine having a pipe on it helps a 200rpm or so. However, being a very beefy engine, 4lbs, it does not hover my Extra. I ran it on glow on a stand. It started very easy on glow but a real bear on gas.

Put the motors back to back and tell me which is taller. the difference isn't enough to measure.

Well the thread was 8 years old at the last post made until you livened it back up.
I happen to have two of the OPS 30cc engines I plan on using eventually on a big twin one of these days. I think they are awesome engines.

WB72, please place the engine for sale in the RCU Marketplace, you'll get a good price for it there or handle any sale details privately, Thanks.
The reason I suggested the Marketplace is that the OPS Maxi has a great reputation for longevity and is a real big prop turning torquer. Great fuel economy too due to its low rpm. It is equipped with all needle and roller bearings.
