RE: Everything Radial Engines
The motor box must be mounted quite far back.
The only way I could come up with for mounting a choke servo was to put it on the side of the motor box then remove some of the fiberglass on the fuse front to let the box slide into place, not the sexiest solution but with the cowl on only I will know.
I think that it's going to come out a little nose heavy even moving the batteries as far back as possible but I cannot imagine this model flying heavy just because of a few added oz on the tail, that's a huge wing underneath it.
Should be LOTS of power and the motor is a sweet runner as long as it's got glow on at low RPM. (some say that the glow becomes unneccesary after break in, my motor is still fresh)
Seems like a great combination so far to me.

Hi.
They take time to produce. We dont have an ETA on them at the moment.
The engines are made in India, and as anyone who has ever visited India will know, they're not in a rush to do anything there (business wise).
We can only wait.
Sorry.

RE: Everything Radial Engines
Hi Radial 1951,the Saito450 is going into a 97' Gee Bee Y,and theSaito325 was to power a Stinson Reliant SR9(101").Unfortunately it is too large in diameter to go forward enough in the cowl. When Kochi posted the info about Advantag'sSaito sale,I bolted out to the shed, opened up the box containing the cowl, measured the BACK of the cowl, dashed inside and ordered the engine, pity I DIDN'T measure the front of the cowl!! No doubtI'll find a suitable airframe for the 325 to lug around.

Hi Kochi, I checked my 325 Saito(also from Advantage Hobbies),and it does not seem to have any noticeable pitting, the pitting on the 450RD is on the front crankcase which appears to be turned or milled, not cast like the 325RD.I may contact Advantage to see if they are willing to replace it if this is not normal on this engine, cheers,Mark.

RE: Everything Radial Engines
Sure Wulf, it's not on their at the moment, but when I put it on I'll post up.
I'm using the xhaust ring, I have the flex pipe mufflers here but in maybe 5 bench runs two of them have already broken off so I ordered the ring. The "zoomies" would just be too messy for my tastes.

RE: Everything Radial Engines
Hi, a few pictures of the new Seidel UMS 7-35 the 7-70 are in the background. the cowl is for the GP Super-Stearman, lots of room, but the 7-70 does not fit by far.Solo Prop.
This looks like engine, can't wait to start it, should fit into a lot of models out there. got mine from Alan at Weston UK, nice place to buy seidels from.

Hi everybody. Does anyone knows how mach fuel the ASP R400 needs to complete a 8-10 minutes flight?
I have one of this engine , but i never tested.
I have to buy the fuel tank , so this information could be very important for me. Thanks

I just viewed a video of the 400 radial and the owner commented that it consumed 600ml in 11 minutes. Hope this helps.

My throttle linkage solution...
Here's the choke servo I was talking about sitting in the notch I had to cut, turned out not too bad actually
and with the cowl

RE: Everything Radial Engines
Hi, The UMS Seidel 7-35 are much smaller than the 7-70 only about half the cylinder volume. It is due to be delivered this summer, mine is pre -prodution model. I just had the cowl for the GP Super Stearman at hand to show the sice of the engine, I have a Saito 170 3cyl radial for this plane.
The 7-70 does not fit inside this cowl, or most kit cowls for models offered for scale, ie. EMS and 70" ++ range scale models.
The 7-35 is 187mm dia. / 25.4mm = 7.36"dia. The 7-35 is 235mm dia. / 25.4 = 9.25"dia. this is just to much for a lot of the cowls out there and I have been looking for a suitable model for this engine ,not to large. (I think the new Swordfish bi plane will fit the 7-70, and be a nice comination)
Anayway the best way to be to display these engines would be with models that use no cowls, like the GP stearman miltary version, I think it will fly great with the 7-35 wich uses a 16" to 20 " prop. for Seidel UMS se: www.umstech.in
I don't know about aney exhaust collector ring for the 7-35 but someone will aftermarket this I'm sure, I think this radial will be popular if it runs as great as it looks, plan to start mine soon.

Nice!
The Saito 450 reminds me of a 70's style space fighter. If CGI hadn't taking over the special effects in movies I'm sure we would have seen a 450 with all kids of plastic tubing and pieces glued onto it zooming around the galaxy.

RE: Everything Radial Engines
Thanks Wheels-
Wow the 425 is a huge engine !It makes the 27% GB look small and that is a big plane! I`m planning on the same setup as you have here in same plane-I have the 27% PA-GB-Y that the 425 will go into also.Looks like you will be adding some tail weight let me know how much you will have to add?Your throttle set-up looks clean,,nice.
Thanks for the pictures I`ll be viewing them again when I do engine install.

RE: Everything Radial Engines
Anyone know anything about TechnoPower engines? Specifically the discontinued 5 cyl 1.39cc A series motor.
Just got one of these and noticed that the RPMs are limited to 7500 static and have a "do not exceed" limit of 8000. Says that this will only swing a 14x8 prop at 7500, that is only about 56mph on the plane ...is this what real world experiences are indicating.
Seems like a 130 plus engine should do better than that even considering operating power loss. I know my saito 90-R3 performs like a strong 56 single and the 170 R3s act like a 150 single, so I guess I thought a 5 cyl 1.39 should at least compare to a 115 or a 100 single.
Ideas? Thoughts? real life experience?......

RE: Everything Radial Engines
Frets24, as the 5 cyl. Technopower is some years old, the master rod is quite difficil (the engine don't weighs much for a radial) and it has very low compression ratio (I use my 7A with lit plugs all the time), the output really cannot be as high as You expect.
Also, I've heared the rocker boxes on this early engines are made from plastic and cannot stand high temperatures, have a look at this, may be You better be carefull with full power flying. The Technopower-manual say to choose a slow and light model plane, rather a Polikarpov bipe than a Corsair warbird.
