What a great thread! Is anyone keeping a list? (NO, I am not volunteering0

It would be interesting to know how many brands have been manufactured since the birth of "gas" powered modeling.

Hi,

I notice the Fisher Red Shift engine was left off the list.

If you want to read about it, the links are:

OK. The list of "Real" engines is up to 125 with the latet additions (edited).

I thought it might be interesting to add the country of origin. Note that few of the large gas engines have the origin listed - many of them use parts from several countries. German Sachs cylinders on USA crank cases, for example. Opinions?

Additionally, some are made under contract for a parent company in one nation, while the engine itself is made in another. An example is Evolution - USA parent, the engine is made in PRC. I have listed the nation of manufacture.

Others have moved, and in one case I've listed the current nation - SuperTigre was Italian for years, but I have listed it as PRC where it has moved. HB (Helmut Borchard) and HP (Hirtenberger Patronenfabrik) are now USA owned and no longer made in Austria/Germany but I still have them listed as European. I don't think any have been yet made in the USA.

To prevent confusion between the "Two" Chinas all mainland production, Red Chinese, is listed as PRC. Formosa/T'aiWan/Free China is listed as just "CHINA."

I may have errors in the listings and many are not labeled. Additions and corrections are welcome.

Sorry there's not a clean columnar format for the origin, RCU's software wont allow multiple spacing - I'd have to use dots or dashes, too much trouble.

Here is the list of "Maybes." I'm not saying they don't/didn't exist, just that they are quite obscure. If a second person has heard of them I'll move them to the "Real" list. And please give the country of origin.

Thanks.

Default RE: Motor List

I can confirm the Fitzpatrick engine (.60 pattern type and heli from the 80s/90s). Very nice engine. See RCM Jun 1993.

I can confirm the Kraft engine (.60 pattern type from the 70s). More recently marketed as the RJL K-61 (maybe add RJL too)
http://www.mecoa.com/rjl/k61/k61.htm

I can confirm MB ... MB is an FAI racing engine designed by Metkemeijer - simply outstanding. http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~fiorimet/Index.htm

Also, noted missing from the list is:
Ross (american made, made several multi-cylinder engines)
Como (ST varients marketed by world engines)

Maybe add West/Weston too (West Eurotech) . They might look like Webra engines, but they are unique and very powerful animals. http://www.westonuk.co.uk/west.html

Ernie:

Cox is on the list, but I had forgotten Cameron. The early Thimble Drome cars had Cameron engines, then Roy Cox starteed building his own engines.

But as I remember the Rodzy was more often built with an OK Cub engine. OK isx listed as "Herkimer/OK."

Next edit will show the Cameron.

WR, here is a real Zeus .61 made in Russia now wearing a Webra carb and ST swing muffler. The machine work on this is exemplary, the piston to liner fit was so tight I barely got it started the first time. It still sounds like a turkey call when turned over.

Alag - Hungary, X4 was a diesel.
Barbini - Italy (I always thought they were Spanish)
ETA (not Eta) - England (hey, you should know that one!)
Double Star - Russia? (very well known in CL stunt)
Elfin - England
HH - Australia (not well known, 10cc speed similar to Hornet, HH stands for Hearn's Hobbies which was/is a Melbourne hobby shop and I had one once).
Jena - Hungary?
Marz - Russia? (lots of them around)
Meteor - Russia?
MS - Australia (Marden Stevenson, based on Dooling 29, made in Sydney and I sold mine ).
Pfeffer - Czechoslavakia
Raduga - ?
Stalker - Russia (One of the top CL stunt engines)
Vlatavan - Russia?
Yulon - England

These are the ones I've heard of or have owned but I forgot another I just bought.
Stas's - Russia I think.

I could cheat and add a lot more but go to http://staff.dstc.edu.au/chernich/ron/index.html then Engines/Finder in the side bar.

Rivers - England
Mills - England (I'd better stop thinking for now )
