Default Saito-100 Needle

I did a search here but couldn't find a concise answer. I have a fairly new Saito 100 and am interested in "typical" settings for the high-speed needle. I know it will be a function of fuel, altitude and temperature but I was wondering where others are setting them. I am using 10% nitro fuel and find that the best setting (according to tach) is around 1.5 turns out (slightly rich compared to peak). I would expect that higher nitro would require a slightly richer setting. (How much more for 20%?) I am getting a great idle just over 2,000 and around 10,000 on a 15 x 6.

The reason they have adjustable needle valves on them is so you can adjust out the differences in machining variables of the engine and other variables like weather, altitude, prop, fuel, type of model, and individual preferences of the owner.

Enjoy,

mine is set at1.75 out at 70 deg and 1.5 at 105deg, these are two settings that i have noticed here lately and in no way are reccomending these settings, yoou need to peak tune yours at the beginning of each session and in between if you get changes in the weather or notice it not running right

Thanks for the info. I was not looking for recommendations but I had read somewhere that a user had theirs out 2.5 turns which concerned me a little. I feel a little better with my 1.5 turns on 10% nitro fuel. Ambient conditions as well as machining variations would be expected to make a difference but I would be surprised to see that much difference.

There are some people who don't really have their engines tuned correctly. That could be the reason for some settings that seem way off. Your idle sounds pretty good. How is fuel consumption?

Notice what Gary said about his runs like close to 1 1/2 turns when the outside air temperature is 105 degrees but more like 1 3/4 when it's 70 degrees F outside.
