Help finding parts for OS 50
Hello all,
I have an older (early 90s) model OS 50 2 stroke. It runs great and has run great since new. It had an unfortunate incident with a parked truck and broke the High speed needle valve off of the carb and broke the carb case, the needle valve is not remote located, well it wasn''t :-). I haven't been able to find a replacement carb. Any suggestions? the part numbers from OS are OSMG2424 25181009 .
Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps a currently produced carb that would work? Thanks
Stan

Measure the shank of the carb and lets see if we can find a replacement? Maybe the current needle valve body will work in your old carb?
The current 50SX has a model 40D carb which is a remote style. If you have one of the 50SX's, you can convert it to front needle valve by using a 40C carb body from the Heli engine. You just use your parts from your old carb and needle valve.
Can you throw up some pictures of what you need?

I am finding the most 40/45 carbs will work in most 40/45 engines provided that they fit mechanically. If you have another 40/45/50 engine with a similar carb you might want to test run the engine on the bench with the substitute carb. Substituting individual parts is remarkably more problematic.

Ok, I got the carb out and here are the measurements. The shank that sets down in the motor has tow tapped holes for set screws, the length from the bottom of the shank to the bottom of the carb is .323", the O.D is .53", the I.D is an oval shape with the long diameter = .4" and the short diameter = .35". The throat of the carb O.D= .56" The ID at the top = .43".

The number on front is 5B, I found out this weekend about OS not stoking the original which is a real bummer, I am trying to find out if there is a currenct production carb that would work. Any ideas are welcome.
Thanks

Mr Miller,
I think your carb is toast. You would need a new body as you already know. What I was hoping was that some small part from another carb would fix yours. But it would be rather chancy to try to put your parts into a 40C body.
Enjoy,
Jim

This current OS 50 carb is the same size as yours. This is the Heli version 40C and is $56.99. It has the same size shank as yours. It also has the needle on the carb. The Airplane version has a remote needle valve with no way to mount the needle on the carb.

Perry Carbs http://www.perrypumps.com/prod01.htm has a model 2400S for $37.95 that would serve you well. These are the black plastic carbs you may have seen somewhere.
Most of the Chinese carbs mount with a drawbar rather than the two screws. There is an exception and that is the Magnum XLS/ ASP (S) 46A engine carb.... 283022 S40801F Magnum Carburetor - XLS 40-52 No NVA Or Mount In Stock $31.99. But, it doesn't have the needle valve on it. Here is the needle valve... 281812 46860F Magnum Needle Valve Assembly - XL 40/46AII, XLS 40-91 In Stock $9.95. This carb has the same diameter shank as the 50SX carb.
Enjoy,
