I'm guessing here that the pre-flattened version is from Nandos?

And I bet that Akubra didn't stay new for too long. It's amazing how a coupla shells of SGs will 'age' something, huh?

The paint stripper worked well.

As someone above said now be gentle and give it a good wire wheeling after blocking the exhaust port etc.The engines don't get anywhere near as hot as petrol versions so you can use nearly anything you want re engine paint as long as glow fuel is kind to it.

Are we still talking about armadillo here? How do they take to that if they are still alive?

it's imperative to remove all paint now that has been covered with paint stripper. then give a good soaking in dishwater to make sure no stripper is in the pores. now earlier I mentioned single stage auto enamel with polyurethane hardener. this is because it stands up to glow fuel. nothing out of a can will over time. the hardest spray bomb paint is appliance epoxy and it'll do ok. as far as heat the auto paint I described holds up best around the exhaust port where it is hottest, that is also why I said use bbq paint. when it gets a little messed up just give a quick recoat.

Someone has asked about the Club Saito numbers and they want one. If there is interest I'll give it a couple of days for you guys to post here for a number. I'd like to see the numbers continue myself. If you requested a number in the past and I missed your request please let me know.

When I was younger a neighbor came over with her daughter and asked me to shoot the armadillo in her garden bed. I hit him right on the shell with a .22 and that armadillo hunkered down almost flat and took off in afterburner. I never knew they could run that fast. I thought uh-oh to myself, and waited for someone to start yelling about a ricochet that had hit their house.

Is it true that armadillos can carry leperosy? Somebody told me that years ago, but I never confirmed it. Of course, we don't have to worry about that with our Saitos!!

A Saito engine can give you the "you bought another airplane" disease so be careful when you pick the engine up - I suggest gloves or just look at it from a distance.........

I have that disease. Hell, I don't even want another airframe. Just gimme their 5-cyl radial and I'll fly a test stand all day

...and I had to look up the armadillo thing. That's crazy haha

Looking from a distance may not be safe either. That's what happened to me. I noticed something through an opening on the underside of a cowl. The closer I looked the more I wanted to see. Then I had to have one!

I think that when you're not lookin, Saitos reproduce. I bought a new computer, so I'm back among the "gearheads" and glad of it. Windows 8.1 is takin some getting used to. It comes with a whole lot of Apps no one needs. I'm going to try a Saito picture in a while.

Hi Hobbsy, Hope all You and Yours are well.

How do you know if you have a mating pair? Or does it matter in today's world? Does size matter? Do you need a specialist to get them to reproduce; are you available for that? If so, can you expect multiple results? I use lubricant (good) and wrap mine in plastic (not so good); does that inhibit their repro. process? Is there a blue pill available for Saito. Do I have time to reproduce some before spring here in frozen CT, or should I send a pair to you in your warmer climate?

Thank you very much.
Sincerely, Richard

Good morning Richard, it's not that warm here, about 20 by the feel of it, my dog pee'd on the fence really fast this am. One my my quirks is that I don't seal engine containers. I think they need to breath. I have a habit of losing the stock boxes so my Saitos are in quite a variety of boxes.

I can see where they would reproduce.

BTW, I just have to ask. Is anyone monitoring this thread for membership requests, and assigning member #s ?
If so, please count me in. FA-40a
Thanks, Don

They do reproduce, the downside is the fertility costs are large.

I wouldn't mind a 'Club Saito' number too.

What do I have to go to get one?

BJ you'll probably have to do something brave like shave a live armadillo with a plastic bic razor.

Hi BJ. In my book it does! As long as you like Saito engines.

You have to own a Saito and have blw give you a number. Shaving armadillos is optional.
