Popo it's that cold here right now we're warming the beer up before drinking it while watching the townsville round of the v8 supercars.Whincup cleaned up and van gisbergen third..hic

Dave i spoke to tom(kmot)many years ago about his painted engines,i'm a great admirer of what he does.

Jim i'll make a good argument for tightly cowled saito gas engines and the p40 is one of the easier one's to do because of the huge chin scoop. You know the gassers run a bit hotter and you need to CONFINE the airflow thru the cowl so it just passes over the cooling fins around the head and exhaust area, the crankcase will look after itself in cooling terms.Make sure you create a good vacuum area behind the cowl outlets and your home and hosed.

Here's a pic of my fav aerobatic with a saito82

Two things here

1. Mr. Lee got my plug fixed, even put a personal note in, that went over the detail of the issue he faced. So 10000 thumbs up to Mr. Lee.

2. I am only getting 7500rpm with a 16x10 prop. At one point I got about 8600 with a 16x8 on the first flight but not since. Even before Mr. Lee fix I started getting 7500 rpm.

Other than grtting 30% which I really do not want to do because of extra price and that all my other engines run 15%, what might be going on with my Saito 200ti.

I have adjusted the valve clearance to .03, the lowest in the manual and I change the glow plugs.

Thanks

Are you sure that's not.003"? The range should be .002" to .004" unless the 200 TI is different. Thanks, Dave

You are just quoting the other conversion .03-.10mm(.003"-.004").

I run a 125(watch it OF) in my Top Flight Mustang with the cowl on ,and it stays cool. The key is to baffle the head so the air flows through it, rather than around it, and have a large exit behind it. Might not look right with huge holes underneath, but it's what needs to be done to run an air cooled engine in a water cooled plane.

I just use the Saito provided gauge, .0039" and don't worry about it. That has worked since the mid 80's. You're correct, I didn't cypher on it enough. I have never dented a cam or any of the other things people imagine up.

Got some 30%. I forgot how smooth Saito runs with 30% idles like butter . I was able to get 7900-8k but still not what I wanted for the prop size.

How well does Saito run on FAI? I have someone who has several gallons just sitting on a shelf. He had it for this massive 2 stroke that doesn't work with nitro that is no longer used, became a dirt magnet. I always ran my engines on 15%. I also have a YS63 that I need to soak, clean, and try to get running. Needs a muffler first. I can also get a box of Saito parts and might be able to build a couple engines from the parts.

Or you could stick to 10% re tuning the 200ti i found the more nitro you run the wider the needles get re fine tuning. They have a single carb and i think the rear cylinder runs hotter and leaner when tuned at max.If you get a sweet needle setting but the idle is a bit rough try adding 2% acetone or 10% petrol..that mix will keep the bottom cylinders lit at idle on a cheaper version of the os radial.Anyone for some chevy rocker covers?

Hey the wasp shut your pie hole ! Trust me its not worth it on my ol p.o.s. miserable excuse for a car . The paint job would be a waste on that . Besides paint doesn't stick to oil grease and whatever lurks under the bonnet . Probably some snakes a kangaroo and a few koala bears in there as well .

Rowdy have you run the 200ti again yet?

Popo everybody who watches tv has seen your car remember? it looks like a white two story golf cart with bullet proof glass all round,i'll bet you designed it that way on purpose. It's electric powered remember? and slow as yesterday you'd be doing well to run a snail over. Now give that lazy no good bonecleaner labrador of yours a friendly kick up the bum for me.

Ran the 200ti today. I put the APC 17x8 back on it and RPM seem about 200 more than another guy posted on another forum. So I should be good. I think he put the wrong RPM for the 16x10 prop at 8700 because with a 16x10 I am only getting about 8000rpm.
