If there is sealing compound there, Horizon put it there. I had the brass plate off at the field when I had it on the test bench because the spray bar had come loose I pulled the plate off so I could tighten the nut on the spray bar. I tightened the little nut on the bar and re-positioned the fuel intake to point back towards the tank instead of forward toward the prop. I am thinking that the position of the brass plate is important and I may have it installed incorrectly.
I told Horizon all this and to check the way it (the plate) was oriented, which I assumed they did. But maybe they didn't .
The fact is there is no visible physical damage to the carb, so I cant imagine why they couldn't get it to run. I will be disassembling the carb and looking it over. I think if assembled and adjusted correctly (bleed screw etc) it will run. I wish I had a parts breakdown of the carb so I could see how it is supposed to go together,

Before I noticed the spray bar was loose it started up and I just couldn't keep it going because I didn't have a good hold of the push rod on the throttle so it tended to fully close at idle which of course killed the engine. After pulling the brass plate off so I could tighten the spray bar down and reinstalling the brass plate, that's when it wouldn't start at all. So I think something is either not assembled correctly and\ or the bleed screw etc are not adjusted properly.

I used to overhaul aircraft engines and was a jet engine mechanic in the Navy so I got to think I can, with a little technical help, get this thing running.

I know it's an old engine but I built a TopFlite Gold edition P-47 with it installed and don't really want to go through the hassle of mounting a new engine that may require a different mount etc.

Thanks to all for the replies

TJ i wish you good luck with the carby like others have said they are pretty simple but i don't understand them fully either. As an aside i have three 82's i've run over the years but only one carby out of three that gives me two to three hundred more rpm on all three engines, the other two carbys stay in a box.Somebody here will know the answer maybe.

ps richard spaceworm jnr..thankyou?? if i remember right you had a post deleted a couple of years ago for a very descriptive picture of a tall leggy blonde bird strutting around in black lace underwear,so what are you doing now?..sitting out on the front porch in a rocking chair whittlin or what??

It could be a shadow I'm seeing, does the spray bar have a cats eye fuel inlet, or is it a t simple tube that just ends? If a cats eye it should pointing up towards the engine as in this 2.20 carb. I don't want to come across as condescending asking things you may have known for a long time. I've had a different Saito carb or two but never one like that.

I think we need to consider that most likely there are no longer any, "Old Hands" at Horizon, they seem to have gone from some knowledgeable guys to guys who knew enough to be dangerous, as the old saying goes, and fed people BS and now guys who pretty much know all the buzz words for electric flight and little else. That's the Hobbsy take on that and it's free.

It's free and I agree.

Oh damn, I rhymed

Hey pope, just think had I posted the Ford chicks! I might not be able to post again! Of course if I posted the real chevy owners vs ford owners one, they may take my internets away.

It's like Saito owners vs OS owners. Hot chicks, or fat chicks, your choice.

There have been people who said that Saito come from the factory with some kind grease on the moving parts. I got a new OS .62v a couple of days ago and it's greased In the important places. It made black streaks coming out of the Saito 1.15.

Can you tell me how to fix it?
spaceworm,
I sure could use tuning instructions and any other advice you could give me. I hate giving up on anything.
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, just back from vac. in Maine.
Here is all I have on this engine, not much out there: A few pics, some words from Robison on tuning, discussion on ABC vs AAC, and a discussion on using 120 AAC cams on the ABC Big Jug version. Good luck. If you find out much more, let us know. I also have Clarence Lee's review of the early Saito 120. and a 120s manual. Let me know if you want those also.

Yup! my bad.I wish you the best recovery,a good scatch build or even a cut out kit worked wonders for me when that happened. That was interesting reading on that old 120 carb,i'd be looking for an easier option? and nice pic of one of tom's saito's.

I asked nicely, this is what we call your final warning. Next one will be in Moderated Status. Not really a step I want to take but lets just drop the off (WAY OFF) topic stuff please.

Well Pete, I was taking your advice yesterday and used an APC 13x6. to break in a new OS .62v. I've been playing with glow engines since 1956 when I was 14 years old I waited until yesterday to stick my hand in a prop. Seven hours in the emergency room, 27 stitches and much O Negative blood lost, hard lesson learned. One third of my middle finger tip is gone. Either don't use APC's or don't mention OS engines in the Saito thread. I am operating the mouse two handed. If I had been using a Xoar it would have broken and I wouldn't need any stitches. The .62 was turning 6,000 rpm at the time of the major blunder. So far I've been sentenced to three weeks of not, using the right hand.

Ohooch
i got 15 stitches and lost a 1/4" of skin on my arm from a 18X10 APC. I don't know what was worse, the cut or the clean up of the plane and radio. That was a few years back when my planes started to get to big to hang on to. Now its tie down all planes. Hope you recover quickly. And do what the doctor says. Ha ha.

Ouch! I use wood props for scale and early aircraft flights just in case. Had a Graupner on a pusher last summer that ate the middle fingers of my left hand. Ugly, but fortunately came out O/K.

Think that was the only bite since my first 40, (with an unsanded M/A prop) over 30 years ago.

Have been acquiring more Saitos over the last year. A 56, 65, pair of 82's, same with 100's and another 125 a few weeks ago intended for a Gee Bee Z.

When my teenage son first started flying with me I let a piece of paper go to fly into the propeller passing thru in the blink of an eye. He got a lasting impression from the cuts every 1/4" in the paper and the split second it took to happen. He has a healthy respect for the fan on the front! I still remember the pain from bites I got from just starting a Cox .049 back when I was a kid, I'm still wary how close I get my digits to a spinning prop.

OUCH, though not near as bad as a fellow club mate. He had his plane on the run up stand, but being a high wing the leading edge on the left wing jumped the hold back when he throttled up and the plane spun around and clawed through his right arm. It was a wooden prop, but was a 22" one. He was taken away in a Flight for Life chopper. His first ride in a chopper and he doesn't remember it. He now has ridges through his arm where the prop chewed through the muscles, but they did a good job putting his arm back together, has almost full use of his hand.
