Yawohl Kapitan Andy,it was mostly my fault.Talking saito's it's easy to get a bit excitable and confused here eg; as a five yr old i ate breakfast porridge out of a big glass bowl that had a barracuda fish printed on the bottom.His name was trigger and he had massive sharp teeth and a generally mean look about him,can't remember if trigger had a hockey stick or not,but he looked and sounded mean enough not to need one.Hope that helps.

First 10 minutes
After 10 minutes, a surprising amount left.
I had a 1.15 for a while, it was a fine engine for a while until the 1.25 came and the 1.15 lost it's place. When I was running at 4,000 rpm for the first 10 minute period black stuff came out of the vent, I investigated and found this, cosmoline maybe. Spelling? Spelling correct according to Wickipedia.

I've had mostly new Saitos and I don't remember anything other than a coating of oil. True story- my NIB FA-30GK had a small rubber band inside of the rear cover.

Dave, my 2004 FA 100 (never started) had a very tiny bit of dark grease on the inside of it's case, I thought maybe I would find it on the cam or on the crank pin, but I could not find it anywhere else, I don't think it was Cosmoline, it looked and felt just like the same Cam Lobe grease that came with the Crower cam I put in my Chevy 350 boat engine,

I think that the grease is only intended to be in the big end of the rod, the 115 just had a little bit too much.
I use Fiske Brothers Lubriplate in bearings and on cams on engines I assemble. They have been around since 1870. I use their White Lithium in an aerosol can on rc rebuilds.

Yep, that grease is just in place for protection till start up and the initial run.
The white lithium grease is just fine in most cases as well. In some applcations, over the years it does tend to dry out and cake up.Dont think that would be a problem with our engines stored at near room temperatures and fairly dry.
I have been using LPS grease (in the small can) for engines that I do not intend to run for some time after assembling. It protects well and does not dry out..

I got this set from Amazon yesterday, 100% genuine, polished, Chrome Vanadium. You're looking at the 12 mm wrench, the box end is a very sloppy 12 mm the open end is about 11.5 mm and will not go onto a 12 mm nut. I am going to see if I can return it.

Is That an AAC or ABC 130
Also is it a T or TD model?
This one is an early ABC, TD model. Comes in at 1.12kg which is about 2lb 7.6 ounces of ancient weight.
The Saito 100T is also ABC and tips the scale to 815 grams or 1 pound, 12.8 ounces(gotta love the metric system!)
Too bad about the wrenches Always nice to actually see and handle tools before buying them.
I still prefer to buy only USA made hand tools with the exception of some European made tools.

Is that chrome peeling off the wrench? The only tools I had that were great were Snap-On, very expensive and some a**-wipe stole them. Over $15K in hand tools gone in a flash. The were from my days as a Mechanic. The tools I replaced them with are crapsman, already broke at least a dozen of them and had to have them replaced. Stripped two ratchets as well.

Yep, the chrome was peeling off with rust under it. I already have return label printed, full refund.
My 1.30 is a four glow plug AAC.

Too bad my workshop is a mess, or I could finish up my Somethin Xtra and go fly tomorrow, but no, nature had to dump 1 foot of rain on us last week. Still sucking up water and trying to get everything dried out, thankfully the water level is now just below the slab so it will stop seeping in.

Is the Somethin Xtra the kit or ARF version? What engine? That is an old favorite.
Right now putting the finishing (rebuild) touches on my old Pica 1/5 Waco. Our club is having a "Twos" contest next Saturday. Putting a freshly rebuilt Saito 1.80 on it for now.
Tomorrow looks like a good flying day.
The Toledo Spl is charging up and a fresh gallon jug of homebrew fuel is set out.
