Gary. so what's wrong with the Carb, am I correct in that the back needs refacing ??

the Mufflers sound great, as Lonnie pointed out, it's pretty cool how you can hear the engine and not the exhaust with the canister muffler,, but for my Mustang I'm pulled to the last one, I fly at an old airport, it's a big place so the noise is not a problem

No , the back is ok, Saito must free bore these or the clamp may have been a bit loose when bored . Just enough so it wound up snug when bolted down. I relieved the high spots by simply exercising . It is working well now and should last forever!

You want me to send it back? I think you will be a happy camper!
That zoomie pipe would be awesome on a 'stang.

That zoomie reminds me of the resonators all the hillbillys run on their trucks around here. I call'm "Bubba Tips". It would be kinda cool to hear a real resonator tip on a saito, wouldn't be hard to make one. Hint hint nudge nudge...,,.

EDIT: On second thought maybe a resonator would be hard to make and who knows what frequency it would cancel out.

Default Exhaust Paint

Any ideas on what type of paint to use on a header pipe? Keracote? Wood stove paint? High Temp Engine Paint? Ceramic powder coating?

Used a lot of ceramic powder coat on all sorts of parts, including exhaust systems. Mostly on motorcycles, When basket tumbled it can be made to look nearly chrome- like but more like luster aluminum.

Lonnie, how about a Saito Cherry Bomb, I had a couple on my Nova, it was pretty quiet below 2500, but at 6 grand it blatted like a stuck pig..

you know I saw a Harley muffler, all it was, was a tube that was larger than the header with a plate at the outlet, the plate had only one small hole in the center of it. I wonder how it would work on a Saito, it should make good pressure for the tank

Hey capt let me know how you went with the fa72 and 82 please.I assume you've been dodging tornado's on the way to texas from what i read here in the local paper about your weather, has dorothy kissed goodbye to kansas yet?

Gary it's good to see someone doing stuff with saito exhaust systems, lot's more interesting than the same old stuff, tried to look at your links but cannot stand the slow download times.

No problem, don't worry about the shipping,

I had Cherry Bombs on my 1940 Chevy Coupe back when I was 17. 327 with 12.5:1 TRW pistons,The then new 2.02, angle plug heads, 284 deg cam, Used fenderwell headers from a 57 Chev with street connectors.
Got pulled over by the State Police. Cop said "I bet those mufflers make a lot of noise when you get on it"
I said I didn't know because I never got on it. He smiled and let me go. Next day I installed a pair of Buick Riviera resonators after the mufflers. Sounded great. Not loud at al but you could sure hear it.
Used a similar setup years later when I built a 427 for my 1981 Chevy Silverado. Got a lot of compliments on how it sounded.

.
I think Ohio got it worse. My son in Kansas did lose part of a tree fortunately it missed the house and out buildings. He lives in Sedgewick, KS and the flooding has been so bad they are down to one road in and out of town. He says the neighbor has started building an Ark!

Too funny!

I just finished two sets of floats. The ditch in front of our house is looking like a fine canal.

The new rod came yesterday and it is notched on the forward side, I now have two new rods, one notched and the other not notched. New wrist pin coming tomorrow.

Default New 120

Picked up a sweet deal on an early FA-120s a few weeks ago. Intend to clean this one up, perform a few modifications and fly it on the WACO 1/5 by Pica. I had used a 180 and a 150 on that plane and both were far more power than needed.
So we should be able to get this old gal dolled up and looking good in naked aluminum without having to paint. You have already seen the valve covers a few posts back.

Are you gonna cut those pliers marks of or replace the prop driver, I have shined a couple of them on my drill press by holding sand paper against them, crude but effective.

Well coming back from Texas had a wonderful time I really got one over on my friend. We flew the Hog with the Saito 82 on it thinking it was a 72 all happy and excited about his new Hog and the 72 then we flew my hog with the 72, he thought was an 82 after it was all done I told him that he actually had the 82, he had the dumbfounded look and I laughed I says 82 is a good engine isn’t it. He had to agree. We both laughed and flew some more.
The 82 purred like a kitten it is awesome thank’s Dave.!!

You're most welcome, I am glad it shined for you, I'm working on another 56 now, I'll post how that goes and thanks for the phone call, it's good to catch up.

Here is the progress to date:
A disassembly followed by a trip to the hot water bath to drop out the bearings. Then a Sea Cruise in the American Beauty, 1970 vintage industrial strength ultrasonic tub. That was followed by a two hour ride in the Harbor Freight vibratory tumbler filled with crushed walnut shells and Comet Cleanser.
Back to the hot water and new bearings from RCBearings installed, a cleanup cut on the prop hub and here she sits, waiting for winter when we can spend some real time metal finishing and detailing.

Hey Gary, what's the springy-thingy in the background of that pic? A shock valve rod assembly for a momo?

The YS is fine, I'm gasping about the flex exhaust.
