Welcome to Club SAITO !
Ok so a friend asked me to build an engine and per Gary’s advice and straightening me out I came up with a 45 with a 56 cam. I had to clean out the top of the cam housing a little, put in the lifters out of this broken 80 and use the push rods from a 56 with the 45 pushrod tubes.
main draw back, the 45 carb is way to small I can’t get a sloppy rich high speed. But it does idle good.
I turned a 11-7 at 8900 and a 10-6 at 10900. I think I can do better if I can get the 56 intake and carb to fit.

Crunchy, I tried that 45 to 45s mod by installing a 50 cam, longer tappets, shorter pushrods etc but without the longer tappet bushings of the 45s/50/56 cam box the tappets would smack into the bottom of the pushrod covers. Watch out for that! You really need to use the correct cambox imo.
You can see now or later. If you want to check for interference now bring the engine to the compression stroke, slide the pushrod covers down as far as they will go and then roll the engine over. If the tappets lift the pushrod covers up you have interference. Not good if it does it like on mine did.

A possible result, on a smaller scale of course.
it’s interesting the problem’s that come up and having the ability to over come them. I thank my dad for that one he was that kind of a guy who could be given a basket case and make it work. The last thing you wanted to do was tell hem he couldn’t do that.

Mike, the engine is boxed up, I will send it out tomorrow.
you know what I hate, when you box up an engine to send to a friend and you for get to put the muffler and metal back plate in the box, and then you have to open up the box and re pack it and re tape it LOL
BTW, where is every one ??

How deep is the snow up there? I think everyone must be either still hungover or in a Tryptophan coma from eating all the Turkey leftovers.
