I'm sure this has been addressed already, but I have nowhere NEAR the stamina to look through 693 pages of this thread. Wow! What a thread!

No stranger to Saitos: I've got several planes with 'em. But I recently bought an old B-17 with four sweet-running .65's which are ideal powerplants for its size.

Problem is the mufflers have suffered some abuse over the years; unsuccessfully? tapped for smoke, covered by JB Weld, now falling off, etc. They attach to the cylinder head with a nut/flange which I have not seen before.

Where can I find replacements? If not, what part # of the modern version should I ask for? Horizon is a little vague.

I don't need anything fancy: this is stand-off scale with simple external exhaust routing.

I have had several Saito engines and currently running a 120 gold night in a BUSA 1/4 Nieuport 28, have never had a twin but am looking at the 90TS for use in a BUSA 1/4 EAA Biplane. This is a small 60" biplane very light, BUSA says it should fly OK, I am hoping the valve covers will stick out the sides of the cowling for a cool look.
What do you think?

You need to give us more detailed pictures of the parts you want to replace?

All I see are regular Saito 65 end fed mufflers from back in the 90's?

I'm looking for an engine to pull a 120 pattern plane, I said that the SAITO[sm=cool.gif] 125 will be OK, but my son says that is not enough power and I got to choose the OS 120 AX.
He would have a lot of explaining to do before he convinced me to give up the Saito 1.25.

wow! i use an apc 15x12 on my saito 125 which is mounted in my 90's kyosho G-trick pattern plane, it has great pull and dosent seem to labor the engine at all, the saito 125 is a power house, so is the 180

i haven't seen those mufflers in a few 100 years, i cant remember right but i think they where made by the home user using the falling 2 parts - http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...#quickOverview and - http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...odID=SAI90R373 , I think guys used to solder them together, i had 2 saitos with those old mufflers on them too, i simply ordered the new style mufflers and they work fine for mine, one was a saito 80 and a saito 40, but i will still go thruogh my parts list and see if i can find those same mufflers

That original muffler was all brass.

But the suggestions given are probably best now.

I have the Saito82 muffler that keeps coming loose. I have been given several suggestions on keeping it tight and have tried most of them to no avail. I am now going to try the Turbo Header from RC specialties, but would like to replace the fiber motor mount with an all metal one. Does any one know where I can purchase a metal mount that will fit the Saito 82?

Apparently that will fit the Saito .56 on up to the .82. It's less than half the cost of the Saito Aluminum Mount. I will buy one of these!

Those mounts have been around for several years and I have used them. They work well if you like aluminum mounts

SOLARVIPER

I just called Horizon, they tell me this mount(for the Pawnee) will fit the sato82, but the distance from the firewall to the drive washer is 4 5/8 inches on the Pawnee. This is going on a Hanger 9 Showtime 50, it is 4 7/8 inches to the drive washer, short by 1/4 inch. You see any problem shiming the back of the mount with 1/4 inch aluminum plate. I am trying to replace the fiber mount that came with the Showtime with aluminum. I have a muffler problem, it keeps coming loose, everyone is telling me to use a metal mount to cut down on vibration. I have just ordered a Turboheader from R C Specialties to replace the muffler.

The 1/4" aluminum spacer should be fine

Check out these guys, I first used them to keep my K&B 1.00 muffler/mount from cooking the firewall on an early BTE Flyin King. Turns out they are handy for lots of things.

I use teflon tape on all the muffler threads. Then before flying, start the engine up and let it get hot and then re-tighten the muffler. Should be good to go. Also ACE hardware stores have a tube of pipe joint compound with TFE (teflon) in it that works well.

I have tried the teflon tape. Ran 2 tanks of fuel through it not problem, then took it to the field the next day and it ran about one minute before coming off.

Have you thought about using some JB Weld? Not enough to be permanent, but enough to keep the nut from backing out? How about safety wiring the nut?

I have used JB weld, it comes loose as soon as it heats up. I have used blue thread lock and then red thread lock still comes loose. What I cannot understand is that I once had a 100 Saito which ewas noted for excessive viberation due to the longer stroke, had a small problem with it until I used blue thread lock. When I used the red thread lock the lock nut was still tight, I had a hard time getting it off, had to work it back and forth forever, before it finally backed off. The best thing I have tried so far has been the teflon tape, it held longer than any thing I have tried. I think now it probably is the motor mount I have noticed I can flex the mount when I put presure on the motor. Anyway I have ordered an aluminum motor mount that will fit with a little adaption. I cannot find an aluminum mount for the Saito at this time. I think they are suppose to be available mid August from Horizon.
