How do I remove the spray bar? NEVER MIND ....I figured it out. Iadded a little heat with a soldering iron and pressed it out with a vice but, installing the new one without tearing it up was a challenge. I'll find out if Idid it right when I try to run it.
The new gasket kit was definately needed. The intake gasket in the head shed a few flakes as Iremoved it and the one in the carb was very stiff. The new spray bar gasket for the HSneedle was already in stalled but, the kit came with a spare and also a new flange metal O ring for the head end of the intake tube. All fit well and looks OK.

Yep, a couple of well chosen pieces of wood and those vices make excellent presses. I just replaced the rear universal joint in my F-150 and used various socket sizes to press the bearing cups into place. I used my well beat up 6" vice. I use this small Micro Mark vice for the small stuff.

Alright gurus, I have a 100 that has good iddle, good WOT but it hesitates in transition, too rich in the HS needle??[X(]

If it hesitates & then accelerates when you open the throttle quickly, the LSN is too rich.

If it dies, when you open the throttle it's too lean on the LSN.

Garry, be careful to not close the throttle barrel while you have the LS needle screwed in to its bottom, it will flair the end of the spraybar rendering it very rich in the mid range.

Thanks for that tip. I don't think I've done that but, I did screw it in all the way with the throttle bbl wide open to make sure it had full movement. All appears to be OK. Haven't had an opportunity to start her up yet. Still working on a couple of small mounting issues but, should have that worked out after my next trip to the hardware store.

A good vice is essential to mechanical work. I have a large bench vice mounted on my work bench in the garage and would be handicaped without it.
I also have vice similar to yours but, Idoubt it's the same brand. I have two other small "clamp on" vices Iuse occassionally but, I use this one unmounted on my work desk as a "third hand". Imade a removable attachement with alligator clip to hold wires when I solder and I cobble together other attachements for various one-time needs. It makes my work a lot easier.
One other item I've acquired that I use a lot is a small machinists vice clamped/bolted (with wing nuts)to my drill press. It's great for holding props while Idrill the mounting holes and other similar tasks.

P.S. I haven't had a chance to mount the FA-91 to the test stand yet and start her up. I'm looking forward to it though. Iplan to mount it on an SPA legal pattern plane.

it did very good, wasn't a speed demon but it pulled straight up very well. was the only ugly stick there that was hovering. In the mornin' i'm picking up a 1/3 scale sukhoi with a zenoah gt80 twin, not a saito, but darn close!

I have a 15X5 Zinger on my Saito FA91S turning 9700 RPM. I had a 15X4 & it was hitting 10,500 static. Too close to 11,000 to suit me.

W/it mounted on a 7# high wing SPAD, ( Coroplast construction) the 91S spinning the 15X5 will yank it out of my hand vertically.

i got to the fly-in and found my battery dead in the tach, so no rpm yet. gonna try again this coming sunday. the fly-in was just about a total was, got 2 flights in between the rain drops, turns out we where under a flash flood warnin' and there i was putting up a tent friday night at 10pm in the rain. got in alot of hanger talk time though and met my district ama prez. the sukhoi is a hanger 9 version, it was flown less then a dozen times before i got my gubby hands on it for small money. 4 wing servos, 2 elevator, 2 rudder, most of which are hs-5945mg.......even though they are hard to find , i have my eye on a couple ($90 each), one wing panel is missing a servo . I believe with this one i'm pretty close to 28 or so planes.

Wow, 28 planes. Where the heck do you store them all? I have trouble finding space for the 5 Ihave. It's a full time job keeping all of them flyable considering after session checks and occassional upgrades.

i have recievers in about half, it's a mixture of 2.4 and fm. i bought two storage sheds 24' x 12' that i keep em all in. Just bought a rebuild kit for my Saito 91 , paid $31 on ebay. it says it has both bearings, all gaskets, carb rebuild, piston ring, and the rubbers at the top of the pushrod tubes. The front bearing was leakin some oil so i figured why not, i'll have to take most of it apart to get to the front bearing anyhow. My question is what is the best way to hone the inside of the bore, do i just wrap some sand paper around my pinky? i would think i need to hone it if i'm installing a new piston ring. last month i refreshed some of the batteries in a few planes, bought 12 -2200mah nimh 5 cell batteries.... they said free shipping on orders over $50!

maybe i'm addicted to flying, i still have the first ever plane i built (gp p51 mustang) and the first plane i ever flew ( 72" Telemaster). Is that hording? do they have rehab for that? for my moms birthday i sent her an invitation to a Warbird Rally. she said she couldn't make it but that it was the thought that counts.

So, 28 planes is 2 hangars full. I've probably owned that many total but, not all at once. I may have crashed that many but, lost count.

To hone or not to hone ....that is the question ....better answered by Hobbsy or one of the other gurus here. I thought the Saitos were sleeved but, I don't know a thing about that end of it.

My wife thinks I'm addicted and she's tried to get me to see a shrink. I made an appointment but, she canceled it when she found out he was into RC planes too.
Iinvite her to the club field all the time but, have never tried a written invitation. Maybe I'll got one engraved.

Fred, the cylinder is hard chrome plated right on the aluminum, I don't think I'd hone it, I did the opposite of what you're doing, I put a new cylinder on my old 1.50 and used the old ring and piston. The compression was there on the very first compression stroke just like always. You cannot feel any wear ring nor see any wear even with a huge magnafying glass.
