WD40 is a kerosene based penetrant and lubricant that was (is) still used widely in aviation. It has penetrating qualities that are great if used correctly and it is a water dispersant. I use it in a number of applications, freeing up "frozen engines is not one of them. If the frozen doesn't "loosen" with an application of fuel to in internals then I strip it. "Frozen" diesel engines a common place thing, castor glugging up the works mostly, a judice use of heat plus fuel usually fixing that problem. So what I am saying is don't discatd WD40 out of hand read up on what it's intended use is and use appropriately. Another product I use when it is "cheaper" or WD40 is not available is RP7.

Do we even know how things turned out with soaking the engine? Did it free up?

Need some help identifying a 4-stroke glow plug. It looks like the OS F-plug but had a gold center pin and "H" stamped on one facet of the hex. It was in the box that the fellow gave me with the FA-100.

Thanks. I bookmarked the Saito info site when I first started playing with the FA-100 but did not think to check there. It's a great site.

This post has less to do with WD40 and more to do with Saito engines. I am about o build a Balsa USA Nieuport 17 1/6 scale kit. The kit calls for a .50 size 4 stroke. I would very much like to use a Saito FA-56 or a Saito FA-62 as power for this airplane. Can some one tell me if either or both of these engines will fit under the cowling? The Saito site does not give the physical deminsions or the power rating for either of these engines.
Thank you,
Cyco

The Sai 56 or 62 is a perfect substitue for the previous 50 size engines. The dimensions and specs can be found on page 17 of the manual found here:

The 72 & 82 have the same footprint & are only 1mm longer & 5mm taller.

Here is a much better site for specifications.http://saito-engines.info/specifications.html

Getting ready to run my Saito 300 Twin that is sitting in a 30% Christen Eagle for the last 4 years hanging up at the local airport. What Fuel? Any starting tips? I want to hand start it with a glove. It has onboard ignition from Elector Dynamics 2.4V 1900 Mah.

Sitting for four years, I would just make sure that it was turning free first by hand, then prime it wet with 10% nitro (turning it thru several times before applying glow), give it the juice, backflip it… And enjoy the sound!

I use 15% Cool Power. For the initial start up use an electric starter. After you have it dialed in you can hand start it.

Is it the single or dual carb version?

15% Cool Power is good stuff.

Also, make dam sure that the prop is nice and tight, and it might be a good idea to go ahead and close the main needle all the way, and then open it 4-5 turns before the first start. You never know what the previous owner did with it.

I'd think so but why ask?? you started it!

Captrko if the 300 twin has been sitting that long you could lift the rocker covers and squirt some automatic transmission fluid down the tubes to wet the camshaft/s.I do that before running a new engine in too.

Saito fans, the mail lady dropped off a prestine Saito 1.00 that is not completely broken inh. It's about 35 degrees her and pouring semi frozen rain. I'll run it in a day or two. As soon as it fully broken it will get a velocity stack and a TurboHeader.

PS, the discoloration you see is not really there, its the result of the lamp shade not being pure white and making shadows. I may take another picture just for kicks.
