If you ever get four (or two), go for a Handley Page 42, you'll never have to worry about being tail heavy.
Good luck on the disability, it took me 2 years of lawyers and $7k and I was bed ridden for 6 months and a year before I could walk to the mail box. (lung infection left me with emphysema and copd)
4 years later and I'm now able to spend 2 or 3 hours at the field (depending on temps) with #1 son doing the carrying and pit work.

Wife got her disability first try (stroke). But I do expect mine to take a bit, that and the suit to collect for the red light runner that hit me. 2 surgeries since.

New project (amongst many others) is to try out the new OS GGT plug in a Saito glo fuelled with petrol. The fuel mix is the problem. Saito 30 powering a 6 foot Lanzo Racer for Texaco, 12 mils of 10% nitro fuel gives between 3 and 4 minutes engine run with an audio tacho reading of around 5,000rpm. Latest data. Day was calm temp arounf 23 degrees centigrade, yes it was a tad cold.
I also have a Ultra Sport 60 halfway built waiting for a Saito 91. I bought it from a guy here on RCU and it is a very smooth engine. Looks like it will have a lot of power but I didn't tach it when I ran it on the stand.

Take that drive to some who knows what they are doing. I have no idea how many "smoked?" hard drives I have recovered info off of. I only failed once.
Sure wish I was one of the guys with a Saito .30 or actually several. I am planning at some point a tri motor bi plane. Well maybe when there is some income coming in again. Trying to get disability, back is done for, 3 surgeries in on year.

The Saito .30 is a wonderful engine and great fun to play with. It looks and sounds great in one of the old HOB T-6's and that is where mine resides.

Old Fart I keep trying to update my profile but the damm thing won't keep it up dated. Today is great (except the temps) just finishing breakfast, and should arrive at the field the same time as the peasants coming in from Brisbane (1 hour away). I am still getting used to a field that is closer in time to get to than that is required to pack the car with 3 models (10 minutes) Audio Tachometer, modern thing purchased from local electronics store a few weeks ago. They are used at most serious O/T comps to "keep the illegimate children honest" Fuel thing, I am still not up to speed with gas engines and OS are specifying very specific fuels for this GGT thing so we are approaching with caution. I am going to have to give this Saito 30 back to its owner after next w/end and get mine out of its box and start running it in. (Its NIB)
Ok i'll follow your progress with interest mate.Might even try it myself.
Bob thanks for trying with the vid i've yet to post one,and it will have to be a new one now.
ps trying to get a flight with the 82 and deccy in today if the rain will just ease up a bit. It's my hacker and we have flown in light showers before. It's fun to watch the prop spray but every now and then the 82 will have a hiccup.

Old Fart I am running an 11x6 APC standard prop on the 30 for Texaco. It is capable of about 65 to 7000rpm in current trim but in normal trim with this prop it will do upwards of 10,000 rpm with a few Steroids (about 20%). Worked well today.
Fnq the 30 has huge acceleration with a 6" pitch on anything light as you know.10500 plus is easy on the mas s2 props in 10x6,if you are getting around 10000 on an apc 11x6 you are well tuned friend
ps...pssssst..don't mention nitro ok ?..just kidding.
pps just got my back up system going...everything seems to happen much faster..is there a cure for that?

Old Saito 45 ran fine when I put it away years ago. Now the pushrods don't go up and down. I don't see any bad teeth on either cam drive gear. The cam rotates ok when I remove its housing from the engine. Is the cam drive gear spinning on the crankshaft? Are the cam lobes worn out? Or is it something else? Thanks.

Valves are not stuck. I checked. Rockers are OK. Pushrods are loose - OK. The cam was a little cruddy but I didn't notice excessive wear.
Only thing I can figure is that it ran bad when I put it away. Too long ago to remember for sure. Engine was stuck from castor fuel. Not seized up.
Does the pointed end of the pushrod go up into the rocker? Are the gear teeth machined onto the crankshaft or is it a separate gear than can come loose?
Thank you for your help! I have 6 Saitos but this is the first time I have needed to open one up.

If I can hop in here... there might be one more thing to look at.... there is a "Tappet" (Part no. 38 on the Saito blow-up in the manual) between the bottom end of the crankshaft and the cam. I am betting that that is stuck with congealed caster oil. You could try heating that area with a heat gun and squirting some light 3-in-1 oil down the inside of the pushrod cover. That could be where the problem might lie.

O/K, even with my experience I'm a bit stumped by this one. The $50 125a I mentioned earlier now has 7 flights on it and runs like all the rest. Normal smoke trail and solid performance through the throttle range.
However, without a lot of time on the first 125 in Rare Bear, I'm amazed at the fuel consumption. With the 91's and 100's I can count on at least half a 12 oz tank remaining at the end of a normal 9 minute flight. The WACO has that size tank, yet with anything over half throttle for take off and the occasional burst, have risked dead stick if I extend it that long.
That fuel burn should mean a lot of cleaning before packing up. Unexpectedly this is one of the least painful of my chores as the airframe has been far less of a mess than the 100 powered Super Bolt. So far the engine and Slimline exhaust shows no sign of baked on crud, either.
I would think a 1 oz/min consumption a reasonable expectation. So, unless aliens are absconding with the remainder, (better get out the tin foil hat!) can't figure where all that fuel is going.
p.s. Yes, I know the next question would be if there is a hole in the fuel system. Bare fuselage for transport and nothing evident in the tank/firewall area.

The fuel comsumption on the 1.25 should normally be about 1.25 oz per mnute at full throttle. The 1.25 has a huge exhaust, so maybe a combination of good piston ring seal and the huge exhaust, the lube is not concentrated enough to collect on things.
