Sorry for the breach of etiquette It was by no means intentional. Who would I ask for a number? Hoping it is a lucky one...Have been a RCU member for years just never posted in the forums. Saito engines have been a long time buddy so I thought I would join this one.
As for being a mechanic...... just the shade tree variety. Was a small engine mechanic for many years but no longer. I still have the grease under my nails though......

Acdc good news mate. The dot goes straight down when the crankpin is straight up,have a look it is easy to see when it is not.

Sammy thanks for the tips mate, well worth reading. As far as parts for your 82 go,i'm in perth western australia and you look to be in little rock arkansas and i've no idea who you would use from your end.Sr telemaster is pretty good on that stuff right down to shipping prices, maybe he knows. If you need pushrods and tubes i think i know what's happened to the engine have you checked for crank end runout ?

Barry on your advice i think i'll have to tell my mate with the mach IV to wring it's neck occasionally, the miser has heaps of points left on his licence.I don't know about club numbers i think mine was 621 from memory,if that turns out to be right maybe the memory is improving and i'll find more new spare parts in the shed soon. You da man so tell us and if sigman does'nt pipe up soon can i have his old one ? now that would be funny or not..

Jarman all is forgiven,as far as lucky numbers go you'd have to try for 007,i would just for the lifestyle that would bring not to mention bragging rights. It's good liking to run saito engines eh ? they sure fly models well.

Excellent good guess on my part! LOL Everything appears to be moving in the right order when I turn the crank, so time to button it up.

Good enuff for that old pickup truck muffler! Brother said they are there, just bent. l'll know more when l get it. Take care of your self and look before you Do** on a bush! Later Buddy Hillbilly Sambo P.S. The engine was in a crash

I have kept the numbers since Bill passed away. He posted his list in this forum and I have kept them on a notepad. I have an Old Fart Pilot as #798. But, I found Old Fart as #612.

My numbers began at #488 and the last number given is #817.

Barry this can't be off topic if we all discuss this saito thread,it's origins, who started it..this thing we read because we like our engines, and the friends who go with that idea.Dave has said here that there is some discussion about his knowledge of saito's i don't know why. Now,if we were discussing his sense of humour or lack of it that would be a whole new ball game, looking forward to it.

When do we start, I've been gone for a week or so to bury my 66 year old younger brother, He was a heavy equipment mechanic for Caterpiller. I am a pretty good public speaker, (with a sense of humor), I spoke his eulogy. He was a born on the run GearHead, all four of us brothers were. He was always fascinated by Saitos and the way they are built, he never owned one, he just liked to hear about mine. At about 13 I took the trumpet from an 18 wheeler, (about 24 inches long), air horn and threaded it on to the exhaust of a 3.5 hp Montgomery Ward lawn mower. It could literally be heard for miles. His talents included being able to talk about and understand Saitos construction, to building a McLaren M8 with a 500 hp Chevy 350.

Hay there Hobbsy. Sorry to hear about your brother! I worry about my flamley. I'm the youngest of three and l just turned 59, my brother is 65 going on 66 and he has Pacer-tides and don't know if l spelled that right? He has been sick with this for the last 10-15 yrs and he stays in the ER all the time, now he's hooked on Morfen. But! lt seems to be the youngest that go's first. Hope your heath is always good and getting the best out of life. l live every day like it's my last! ANYWAY! l have a new Aerroworks 30cc 260 that l'd like to trade a real low time DLE 55 with a pitt's muffler for a used Satio 270-300 Tween or even a O.S.? Any takers?

Sorry to hear about your brother, Dave.

Old Fart, we do get off topic and we always have here. Bill Robison was the worst offender of all. That's what keeps this thread alive and kicking. Humor always helps and is welcome. Okay, I guess I'm a repeat offender as are all of the moderator staff. W8YE got into trouble with his recommendation to use bad glow fuel to kill ants, which offended a member. I think my biggest moment was when I joked about coming home and kissing the cat and kicking the wife. Some guy was profoundly offended about my cavalier attitude towards spouse abuse. Go figure.

Both are rather funny. It was and is obvious that your comment was meant in jest and as humor. Some people have no clue and a skin about one atom thick. It is very hard to joke around with them. I think they WANT to be offended. It is very hard to joke around with them in person and virtually impossible in a thread.

I edited the rest of my comment so as not to get suspended.

Another thing that offends me beyond belief are people who feel the need to classify themselves to be something other than just an American. Agin 'nough said...

As far as my Saito goes. All back together and pretty again! Fuse is ready for me to stick it back on. I will need to rethink how I connect it to the servo though, I had a regular pushrod connected to it instead of my normal cable system, and well it busted the servo pretty good.

The .65 like the 50/56 was a real sweetheart of an engine. The .62 is likewise as is the FA .40a.

I about wore my .65 out. No longer tenough power to safely fly with. I have a new (Frank Bowman) ring for it and bookmarked bearings for it. I just can't afford to buy at this time.
http://www.bocabearings.com/bearing-...saito-fa-65-65
But as soon as I can you can bet I will order them and rebuild.

Hi guy's I am new to the forum, but I need some help. Years ago I purchased a new saito .50 to go with my Midwest stareduster, the kit still sits in the closet but I got the engine out and fired it up for the first time last year (first 4-stroke engine), I am sold on the fact that atleast the saito .50 was soooo much more enjoyable to run and break in than that china made super tiger GS .40 2-stroke.Iam sold on the 4 for sure, but my question is to club saito people(hope I can be one of those people)I know I am opening up a can of worms, but I want to breakin my saito .62 with the correct amount of castor or synthetic, or both, and also total oil content. (broke the .50 in on red max 20% total oil 18% syn. and 2% castor, 15% nitro) what do you guy's think ,help me out

Nothing wrong with the RedMax, just about an ideal mix. 4,000 rpm at 1/4 to 1/3 throttle for the first 10 minutes is the most important part of the break in process. I have a method that some disagree with and others love, I'll share if you like. It's turned out about 33 perfect Saitos.

Wildcat 2&4 15% is also a good fuel for break in. Has a good mix of oil in it.

It is indeed a good fuel, I tried 4 gallons of it last year. It does not leave an engine dry inside like some other full synthetics.

My condolences dave, years ago we had a politician who was brave enough to say 'life was'nt meant to be easy' and sometimes he was right.Fun is important and this thread is part of that for many i hope, more entertaining than arguing.

Barry that was the funniest thing i've read in ages. Thanks for the explanation.

Acdc sullivan golden rods work well.

Welcome aggie,i use 15% klotz syn and 3% castor for the initial run in period. Some people think dave run's 'em in a bit slow but since they sound so good and the beer fridge is so handy..why not ?

Later model Saitos eg 56, 62 etc are required to use 20% synthetic oil no castor according to Saito. In fact they go as far as to say any warrenty will be void if damage results from using the incorrect oil, once again according to the data in my 62 box. Nitro content is free as is methanol of course.

FNQ, I seriously doubt that the Saitos design has change, the part numbers are still the same. It's just that someones idea of a better lube has been thought up, just like a new boss who wants to change everything until the workers re-educate him..
