I am surprised that none of you sharp eyed Saitoists noticed that the airpump is missing from this engine. Clarence Lee noted this in his last test of the 1.82. A good move when you consider that the by pass gasses are going to vent the crankcase anyway. The right cylinder has a standard cam cover installed when the pump was removed.
IF it was my engine I would rig up a crankcase breather line to the intake manifold. Similar to the PCV systems used on automotive engines.

I'm sure one of you guys know the answer to this. Does the FA82A have a gasket on the plastic back plate, or do they rely on the plastic to seal the case?

If some of ya'll would like to read something interesting, read a paragraph or two beside the K&B add in this test of the Saito 1.82 twin. The same hold true for the 1.00 twin that I just received. The right cylinders cam, (on the 1.82) is the same as a .91 cam, however the left cam is different for some reason. Maybe do some speculating too. I'll check but it's probably true of the 1.30 also.

For all 72 owners- get the aluminum backplate if Horizon really has them after being out of stock for some 6-7 years.

On a single as well as the starboard cylinder of a twin, the exhaust valve is 1st in relationship to the cam rotation. On the port cylinder, the intake is 1st, requiring the cam lobes to be reversed in order.
The same scenerio holds true for the FA-100Ti & the FA-200Ti.
It is said that the port side cam from a twin can be used to reverse the rotation of a single.

If a couple of the larger twins can have velocity stacks why can't my 1.00? I would rather have had aluminum ones but all the K&S aluminum tubes were too large. I also made up a temporary support for the pipes.

Your 1.00T was fitted with the corrugated pipes? My 1.30T has rigid pipes with a pressure tap on one of the two. Do you think I should support the pipes I have? Thanks.
BTW we are welcoming spring up here in CT with 5 inches so far of new snow.

Yes Richard, the 1.30 is a little crowded back there, the 1.00 came with the black rigid pipes and the flex pipes. I seriously considered selling the flex pipes, people are always looking for them. Hopefully it won't rain too hard tomorrow, it supposed to be 50+. Maybe I can break it in.
You could always mount a pair of stock .65 mufflers or a pair of Turbo Headers, no support needed.

Yerp - used to live in Birdwood, so there were quite a few fishing trips down to Goolwa, Victor H, Rapid Bay, Cape Jervis etc.
These days I'm back in the land of Vic, but I've done a bit of slope soaring at Victor, 2nd Valley, Maslins, Hallett Cove and a few other spots whenever I get back over to SA.
Oh...and Cockles are deeee-lish when done with lots of garlic, black beans and chilli. YUMMO!
You just have to make sure you 'de-sand' them, then make up the sauce first and drop them in - remove and eat as soon as they open.

You poor thing on 2 counts , eating them things and being in Victoria . I cant even eat mussels or oysters etc . Been sloping at hallet Cove and victor but not Maslins (wink wink ) and please dont tell me your a Port man ! Cheers the pope !!

BEEJ, I've never owned a 1.80, soon will own a 1.82 twin, my first Saito was a gift from my daughter in 1991, a high compression, (11.24 to 1) Saito 1.50, later I bought an earlier high compression .80 GK, 15.5 to 1 compression ratio. Richards 1.30 shown above is 12.98 to 1. My 1.00 shown above is a lowly 7.98 to 1. Share the running 1.80 with us if you will, Thanks
PS, since you live Diesel-land, the .80 will run on Davis Diesel fuel un aided. In the running picture it is turning a Bolly 13.5x8 at 8,792, it now wears C&H Ignition, it runs as smooth as silk this way. I couldn't set the timing at 35 BTDC as recommended, it rattled too much, at 32 it is very quiet and smooth.
