Jerry, I'm pretty sure that Pete and others mentioned sneaking up on the peak, typically a Saito when at full peak the rpm will wonder up and down a little. One click rich and it will run rock steady about in the middle of the wondering rpm. The early high compression ones don't have this little bit of forgiveness, they go right from peak to hurling the prop into the neighbors garden.
Pete I found two Graupner 10x5.5's. I have the new one in the PSP ready to run today with a 10x5.5 installed. I only have one of the 10.5x5's. My previous LT 25 had a nose gear, ALA some great engineering by your's truly, luck mostly, to be honest. In not so short grass it would have trouble getting rolling when using the 10x5.5, I would install the 10.5x5 and would quite literally jerk the plane up on the grass and away it would go. I have a few of the blender blades to test for other people but never fly them.

FA-82 carburetor gasket set question?
I'm rebuilding my FA-82 and decided to attack the carb while I am at it. I ordered the gasket set (SAI91S91A) that was indicated for this engine. The set I received has more parts than I expected. I suppose that this set is designed to service more than just this model engine, but I'm not sure now which ones I need. I haven't completely disassembled the carb (haven't pulled the barrel out) yet and I can't seem to find a detailed schematic of the engine that includes a full break down of the carb. The one in the book doesn't show specific gaskets other than #32. Here's what was in the package...
1) is there a detailed schematic available for these carburetors?
2) It looks like 4 and 7 are the same. It appears that 7 and 8 go on the upper end of the intake manifold (listed as part 32 on the schematic). Then 4 would go on the lower end. Any suggestions as to where 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 go?

Page 18 has a poorly focused picture of the exploded carb.
Lose #2 unless you have a choke.
7&8 go on the upper end of the intake tube
#3 goes under the nut that holds the needle clip
#6 goes in the end of the spray bar
1 or 4 goes at the bottom of the intake tube, judge by the room you have

Well Pete the second one is ready to go. broken in my usual way.
New Saito .30 E series, not sure that means much.
Prop===Graupner 10x5.5
Fuel===WildCat 18% 2/4 with 18% full synthetic.
Plug===Saito SS, came with it.
10 minutes @ 4,000 three turns out, glow power needed
10 minutes @ 5,000 two turns out glow power not needed but still smoky and rich
10 minutes @ 6,000 same setting
10 minutes @ 8,000 two turns out
10 minutes @ 8,500
10 minutes @ 9,000 took 16 oz tank down to .375" from empty. Refilled to about .75% full
Re-started and allowed to warm up, set idle at 2,200, then slowly peaked the HS needle to the reading you see. That rpm is sustainable and repeatable.
The cosmoline or whatever came out for a full 30 minutes then stopped.
PS, I almost forgot, the new paint stayed nice and shiny and stayed on there. Hooraw.

not bad at all, would like to see a comparison between the graupner and the bolly clubman prop of similar size.. Hobbsy you should be able to get both Bolly clubman and carbon props from the distributor they have in the USA, check out the Bolly website for the addess. The carbon props are well worth the expense.

Oh yes I forgot, after I developed my limited skills in rallying in the Gemini ZZZ I moved on to a Datsun 1600 /L 510 that was part of the Datsun rally team of the era. But food for thought imagine a support car kitted out like this 1970's Datsun Econo Van with a rally spec'd 280z engine, series 2 5 speed g/box, ford 9 inch rear end, 4 wheel disc brakes ex 280z, and Koni rally adjustable shocks. It carried 300 litres of 100 octane fuel and all the other spares needed to support a 240Z car. It was one of 3 factory converted support vehicles I managed to acquire (in its dotage) in the 1990's, cost me a lot in speeding fines before I got rid of it.

Trev, I'll check out my Bolly supply and see what I have in that range. I have been getting them from Dar and Derek, Dar is about out of them.

I'll second that i'm picking up a new 82 this monday that makes three.Thats a long run in to me but the figures you got are very good mate.10% nitro or none? and the following is a joke,sort of.
Trev don't worry about dave's bias for all things american re the datsuns,i hate datsun 120Y YI YI's... just quickly,imagine you had a 90yr old frail lady living next door and she was having car trouble and could'nt get out to do her things she needs to do.In your driveway sits a datsun 120y and you offer to loan it so she can get on with her life,it might cost you yours after she half beats you to death with her zimmer walking frame,even beige coloured oldies won't drive them.The 240z i hasten to add is a whole other story.

Pete, I have to be honest, there sits a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant in my driveway that is one of the quietest cars I've ever owned. A gift from our daughter, the ride in her new Acura sounds like a road wagon by comparison. My 1995 F-150 is still very quiet inside at 204,000 miles. Our neighbor has a new Scion that is also noisy inside on the road. I like quiet.
I owned a Saito .91GK for a short while, I horse traded it to w8ye and then bought an .82, despite it's relatively short stroke the .82 is a torquer. I then sold the .82 since I still have the early high compression .80, now with C&H Ignition. Since I was successful painting the .30's cylinder I'm think about painting the old .80 GK, it looks a little worn.

You have inspired me to do a "GK" on one of my Saitos. Have you seen any thermal studies on having a blackened cylinder re. cylinder head temperatures? I am thinking they should run cooler due to "black body" emission, but I don't know if that applies in this case. Thanks, and hope to get down there this summer.

Good morning Richard, that was Bill Robison's take on it too, it's somewhere in his Saito notes. I'm kinda in a rush, we got a new preacher and we're having a hello and goodby party this PM for the new and the previous. I found a small long nosed Tru-Turn spinner for the .30's and two three blade 8x6's. I won't get to experiment. until tomorrow. I'll have to measure the spinner and get a second one.

Good thing you found the Graupners because the tan Bolly 10.5x5s were an utter disappointment for me. This was on a 2 stroke, but one tank of gas and that piece of junk prop was history. If you are calling APCs blenders you need to give them a fair chance in the air. They out pull just about anything else. I've heard people say they are afraid of them but a prop is a prop and all of them do a good job at cutting fingers.

blw, I agree with your assessment of Bolly Clubman props (tan ones), for the price APC props are my prop of choice EXCEPT for competition when it is Bolly carbon first followed by Sherlock when I can get them.
