Well if you are financing a new build on a shoestring 2 cycles look pretty good right now. Especially when someone gives the engine to you for free! Same guy has a brand new Super Tigre .75 made in Italy with a brand new Top Flite in cowling Warbird muffler and discontinued header for sale. I am negotiating for it now I already have the kit to put it in.

I got so used to flying the SSE nose high that I don't even think about it much anymore. It's my every day, beater model. It lands fine with the nose up. The big airfoil lifts it right up for almost a 3 point takeoff. If you put tip plates on the ends of the wings it will still wallow around flying at 5 mph, or something like that.

OF- the Somethin' Extra has a tailwheel, but a 12"+ prop is getting too long for it. I raised the main gear on a block of 1" balsa that helped some.

The new ARF clears a 13" prop with the tail horizontal. They must have lengthened the mains between the old ARF, kit and the new ARF. I am still *****ing at myself, I knew better than to flew downwind of the runway with a half tank before fully knowing if the new tank fixed it, which didn't. It will be fixed now though since I have full access to the tank compartment with the top ripped open.

Still undecided if I want to put the OS 70 back on, or wait until the Oct 3 swap in hopes of finding a Saito 56, or ordering a new 62, but I hate having to break in a new motor on a plane I want to fly NOW! Since I do have the mounting dimensions for the 62 now, I can at least check to see if the current mount matches up to the 62, that way I can at least fly the 70 on it until I do get a 62.

Way back Saito did come with the metal mount. They have always recommended using them. But, I can't tell you when they stopped supplying them with a new engine.

Sig used to ship those two piece polycarbonate engine mounts. At least they did with the 4 Star 40, LT-40, Somethin' Extra, and Kavalier kits.

I hope they changed the SSE main gear, Acdii. They sat low.

I was given a botched up kit that a guy built and covered. I pulled the Monokote off and repair some of his mistakes. Put in a top cover from firewall to turtleneck. I'm now thinking about lengthening the fuselage some 3-4 inches if I can in the tail section. A long range project.

I have 2 x FG engines a 20 and a 36 both came with mounts and I am certain I have seen others with 11's, 17's 21's and 40's (all FGs) that came with engine mounts. But remember we live in OZ and it would appear that things re Saitos could be a little different here. Likewise I have no problem sourcing the multi engine fit metal Saito mounts and like the metal OS ones I can also source relatively easily here they are the best mounts to use.

Trev the way i read it is that the ally mounts were for gas saito engines and a cooling aid re heat sink.Thank you for mailing the book.Years back i bought a saito 30 and dave (retired dairy farmer who i hope has come to his sense by now and traded the harley for a ducati,so he can have some fun) posted some tacho figures for his 30 at 13+ on the ground.Now,he's a known abstainer (non drinker/low nitro) kind a dude so what made me say all that is i'm doing this awesome low flybye in a small full retracts p51 with the saito 30 flatout past a crowd of adoring fellow pilots when the handbrake slapped me and yells:"stop snoring!"

ps has anyone else heard of the fa30sc that maxxes out at 22500?

Uh Oh Pete, you bin zaggeratin on my behalf again, here are those numbers from 2003. I used a Graupner 10x5.5

Fuel WildCat 15% Premium 16% lube, 80%syn and 20% castor.
Peaked rpm, GloBee Intellitach 10,410
Peaked rpm ACE Tachmaster II 10,380

I ain't exactly a tee totaller, last night had a glass of real Sangria that was brewed in Spain. The only Italian bike I would consider would be a Guzzi, the one with windshield and bags, they changed it's name a few times over the years so don't know what to call it. I admire the Triumph Trophy also. Can't part with the Harley under any circumstance. I am going to own another Saito FA .40a soon. Can hardly wait.

Is there an easy way to fit the minute O-ring into the spray bar? I have been battling and can't get it in properly. There must surely be a trick to it. Any suggestions would be appreciated as at 76 years old I guess my eyes aren't what they used to be, nor my fingers so nimble either! Lynton

I'm 73, I push the o-ring in with my thumb then straighten it out with a push pin or the point of the needle valve.

Thanks FormerDairyFarm. I managed it eventually. I used a toothpick. I put the o-ring onto the toothpick and by getting the point just far enough into the spray bar there was enough clearance to permit the o-ring to get past and into the groove in the spray bar. I hope this will be of use to someone else sometime!

Well i'm only 61 so i guess that puts me firmly in the disrespectful lunatic camp no offence intended.Dave i think the guzzi you mention was a californian model.Getting the o ring back in the spraybar was easier than picking the old hard one out i found plus i had some spares if i made a mistake and damaged a new one when refitting.

ps dave the rpm figure i was talking about was recent for a 30 you showed on the bench and a tacho reading of 13168 rings a bell,thought you may have been having a joke and photoshopped it first so i never queried it at the time.Then again at 61 maybe it's time for a set of reading glasses.

ps nobody seems to remember saitos engine pamphlet that lists those rpm figures for the 30sc

Digging back through the years to 2006 I found a post of mine with 11,675 with a Graupner 10x5, now days I use a 10x5.5 Graupner or Bolly and get about 10,500.

According to Saito the 30 will turn a maximum of 12,100 20% nitro, 20% oil and a 10x5 APC. We who know better will feed it 30% nitro (starters) 20% low viscosity oil and a 10.5 x 5.5 Bolly carbon prop. Tell you more later. It is going into a 2.5 pound Lanzo Bomber for vertical drag racing (Duration).. Lanzo has a 70 inch wingspan, wing area 700 square inches. Old Fart said book mailed in Rosewood friday last.

Your prop figures are good for the 30,different prop but i got 10600 easy on 20% with a mas 10x6 q tip.
