Hey there OF , I have 3x of those ugly OS 4strokes and i think youve been hitten the wacky baccy again ! Are you like the ol Italian mobsters with the gold teeth and chains dripping off you everywhere ? The only thing is youve got the big fat guts and combover to match . I guess you could hang the 18 carrot 30 around your neck when you blow it up from too much synthetic oil , remember the castor goes into the fuel can and its not meant for personal lubrication . Okc the gold plated saito 30 looked a bit much,even the black and gold one's.

Anybody remember the O.S. .26 four stroke care engine? I guess it had a hot, high rpm cam in it. Some of the RC combat guys converted the .26 airplane engine and I guess it ran sweet.

"Car" engines are not meant for continuous WOT operation. I once melted some plastic component in a 1/10th nitro buggy by running it the length of a closely cropped hay field @ WOT. It was about 250 yds long. As for the hot cam in the 4-stroke .26? As long as the throttle was operated intermittently, it would make lots of power for short bursts. Kinda like the "emergency power" set-ups on WWII piston driven aircraft. (The Germans used nitrous)

Re that O 26 car engine. Once we discovered it I found it was a good duration engine. Engine run time is 28 seconds and the RPM on 30% nitro (I think) was around 26,000rpm (to my best recollection). We ran 9 and 10 inch props. Eventually we stopped using them because the a/frames were to small (60" w/s ) and disappeared at height.

Pope, I have a neighbor named David Pope, I live near Pope's Creek, (crick) Road and not too far from Pope's Head Road.

The gold Saito is pretty but I din't see the point of it or the Black knight versions.

I have always looked on the engine as the workhorse part of the engine pulling the airplane through the sky. The airframe should be the pretty part!

I ordered a little 4 star .20 last night for my .30 Saito. It will be going under the X-mas tree so I will have something to unwrap. After I finish building my competition bound Moth Minor, which will be getting a Saito FG 30, I will throw the 4 star together. That little .30 has sat around too long not running.

I haven't been on here in several years, I gave up the hobby, but still have some stuff left. What is a .65 Saito worth nowadays? Probably needs bearings, it's been sitting for over 5 years, but was a solid performer. I also have a rebuilt .91, not run since the rebuild, and a NIB .91. I may keep the new one, I still have a FunAero SE-5a kit that it would be perfect for.

I wonder at which point? Before it is built, after covering, engine, radio install? Ready to fly? Before the maiden, after the maiden? What if I destroy it during the maiden? How do I unregister?

"Multi-rotors" are so easy to fly, they have attracted a lot of t,he "instant gratification" types. Fixed wing & true helicopters weeded out the a-holes that are now buying "drones" by the hundreds of thousads. The "industry" predicts over a million new "drones" to be sold this holiday season.
How many knuckle draggers will try to get a peak at the teenage girl next door sunbathing with his new toy? It has already happened & the father of the girl was exonerated for shooting down the drone with a shotgun. i would have done the same thing in that situation!
This is the type of behavior that will bring about the necessity of "registering" these idiots & their toys. Hopefully, the AMA will recogbise the difference & not allow us to be lumped in with the imbeciles.

I have one of those little drones! Actually, they're hard to fly because they aren't that stable and orientation is difficult to keep straight in your head. The weight is a factor, so it is like a heavy helicopter. It takes a while for a control input to start acting and it then zings off on you. I got the Glimpse where my iPhone will rest on the xmitter. You can't fly it off of the phone video. At least I can't. Not enough cues on the screen to know if you are 10' or 20' away from something. I use it mostly indoors for flying in the living room at night but I have threatened the wife of a scouting flight when she is in the shower one night.
Activating the camera really takes a hit on available flying power, but the HD video is incredible. I really want it to practice enough to use outside and fly up around squirrels in the trees or chase cats and chipmunks around on the ground. The 4 blades are too loud, imo to hover around waiting to film hummingbirds at the feeders. We'll see next year on that.
My mini coax indoor helicopter is far easier to fly. I had the original large sized Blade with the tail rotor and it was hard to learn. I think the batteries had a 4-5 minute life and the gear train was loud.
When it was new, I flew the drone up to the ceiling and over a ceiling lamp and it blew out years of dust from the open globe. I thought I would be smart and just hover it around the wood floors and flow the dust under sofas and chairs but the wife noticed it that night and asked what had been going on.
