About those Cub pics, I bet a pic of a pattern plane would work fine.

Does anyone know of a company that makes spinners that come without holes cut for the blades? You know, do-it-yourself spinners.

I thought so. I have one of these Widebody kits in the box and my first one can be rebuilt to look *almost* like it should. Just the front half of the fuselage is crunched.

I believe Tru-Turn does and you might check Dave Brown too, they are owned by Ohio Super Star now.

So, if a Saito has a badge on it, instead of the cast in number, what does it mean?

Nice framework on the cub dave and your 30 looks better than my all silver one with it's black barrel. They also have the nicest looking mufflers in the saito range of singles, look better than my favourite shootin dog and that's saying something, hope the handbrake never reads this.

Just curious, how does the "gold" on the special edition Gold '30 hold up to running, or does
anyone actually run them? Thanks.

Re the badge vs the cast in size desig, I am thinking the cases in those are used for different
displacement engines?

Sincerely, Richard

Quite possibly so. He removed it and found the stamp is FA-50.

Pete, I've shared this before, one of my .30's is an early one, William Robison borrowed it for his Saito Notes and painted the cylinder black as little joke. I liked it so when got a second one I did likewise. My 1.50 was black with Chrome rocker covers from new. There is quite bit of difference in the size of the .30 and .40a mufflers.

Yes i remember the story it's a nice one.

Richard do you know what saito use to get that gold looking effect it seems very hard wearing on the well used gk's i've seen covered in oil and running lean stinking hot.Barry are you flying the 30gk or is it set in a block of clear acrylic resin next to the bottle of jacks? they look so flashy it's a bit hard on the optic nerve unless you've had a couple of..

I have no idea what the "gold" finish is. I was hoping Dave would know, It may be the same "gold" as used on the metal "gold" rocker covers, like I have on my FA 120abc. That finish has held up well for awhile since new. I think some of the rocker covers are plastic, finished I would guess, in a vapor deposited metal, but again I don't know what. Maybe they are all vapor deposited?
Very best regards, Richard.

I don't know what the gold is made of, I know that it is tough stuff. On this Early .80 the gold is a lighter color than, for example this, later .56. You can also see the difference on this side by side .80 and .82.

Maybe the aluminum metal ones are anodized, and the plastic ones are vapor deposited plating?
Here is a pic of my FA 120abc (aka Big Jug), The covers are metal and a fairly deep rich gold.

Hi Dave, you had me questioning my memory! In a post titled " are rocker covers needed" on 11/06/2010, TSky28 asked the question regarding damaged ones from an inverted FA-50GK crash.

W8YE replied ""RE: Saito Rocker Covers Needed?
The OEM covers are plated plastic"".

I don't have any GKs, and the only gold covers I have are on my FA 120abc. Maybe I need to check again if they are metal or plastic.

Very best regards, Richard.

Plastic would be a bad idea. Same for plastic backplates but they tried those.

LOL! The FG-21 is similar to the FA-125(or close, not sure which one they are still selling, but its the identical engine but with a locked collet with magnet, and a gas carb. So to answer his question, if the 125 works, so will the FG-21. Same great running engine without all the slime.

Well Old Man, I do like the smell of a Saito burning Wildcat, but I hate the goop all over the airplane that makes it hard to pickup without it slipping all over. On my Something Extra, I have the breather attached to the bottom of the plane, and after a flight the entire bottom has a thick layer of goo on it. That crap is a beast to remove too.
