Pete, yes, pretty much meaning the backplate issue and covers out of plastic. My 72 is one of those that gave me and W8YE fits. I have a metal one now that I haven't installed yet. I got it from England. The 82 runs fine with the metal backplate, of course. The 72 is one of my favorites once the problems were taken care of. They really sound good at full song and an APC 13x6. Sounds like the 56's big brother.

The 72 I have on my SSE is a good runner, and I think it has the plastic back plate on it.

Hi there gents,

I am the unhappy owner of a SAITO FG-40. For the past 4 years... I shelved it two years and dusted it off over the winter to fit it on Hangar 9 Spitfire "30cc". After finding the ignition lipo 2S have a weld broken (intermittent 8.4V to 4.2V) and find out that 95E dose not work very well... I fed it 98 gasoline and it work fine on ground but in flight it sounds like it misfires or the cooling is not sufficient and it stops in flight. I open-up cowl exit vent and reopened the front + baffled the cylinder. Well it still misfires and some time it stops...
Now i have fitted a new stock carburetor the same things are happening... I am down to point the ignition system (original from Saito). I do know that these engines have a tendency to play hard to get but dam this one is give me a run for my money...
I can not find a reference for ignition box for Saito FG-40. (they are probably ashamed or out of stock...)
How do you see this problem on FG-40. Have you encountered such inquiry? Would you give me some tips on how to trouble shoot.
The carburetor can not suck gas when trying to prime/chock when the fuel lines are empty on the first start of the day...

Regards

Marv

You guys remind me of the new show I saw on TV last night, it was a family comedy. It had the usual kids who act up, goofy adults, and a grandfather who was a real curmudgeon. I don't think it will last any longer than that NYC Crime Family comedy they had in the same slot last week. The show had a weird name it was called "The D.N.C.".

Or maybe the "Alchy" Engine Forum? Which brings up the question is a small gas engine just an Alchy Engine in a 12 step program?!

Hello my name is EVOE10GX nd I'm an alchoholic. I haven't had a drink for.....

I like "meth-head" better. It's more in tune with the times.

Me too,the last time my house got robbed they were so fast they missed the stash of saito engines. If they'd just stuck to plain old dope all they'd be doing is racing each other to the next mars bar.Don't start on about cdi you'll wake the pope up and he might post a terrible pic as he has in the past.

Hey you mean it works? awesome! tho popey is pretty good when it comes to a serious question about tuning saito glow fourstrokes. It's the other stuff you got to worry about.Don't get him started on firearms, the coming american elections or erections,he can be real bad next thing you know dave will be posting pics of a saito with his harley in the background on trickle charge

Marv lean your saito fg40 off a bit if you swing a small prop,if you have an early ignition check/replace it.Re priming check that the throttle can be fully closed when you do that.Run it on 85 octane.

[QUOTE=Old Fart;12240711...Re priming check that the throttle can be fully closed when you do that...[/QUOTE]

And, see if the throttle plate and/or choke plate have a small hole or notch. If they do, I suggest soldering them closed to maximize the "suck" on choking. Just what I do, FWIW.

How about a nude engine, I took my big green Saito powered bicycle to see Hector Inspector for it's annual State check up, it always passes. There is a discussion going on at another network concerning velocity stacks, as most know, I've been known to make my own. Sorry about the dupe picture of the 1.00T, I wanted you to see that it's on a plane that it flies very well.

If he's going to look even remotely like a 90 year old Tweety Bird... it's gonna be really sad...

What seems to be the consensus on when and how a velocity stack should be used?

Dave- is that the original material under the cam covers? I was wondering about the brown color.

acdii- guess you're talking about a handgun since you are threatening to pull it out. As for Magnum engines, I've liked all that I've tinkered with or flown. I would certainly opt for a Magnum over that brand won't be mentioned.
