Sr no offence intended at all but that vid you posted of your 180 on nitro and cdi was exactly what came to mind when i made that comment. At idle it behaves and sounds like a huge steam traction engine that will do 100rpm all day and enjoy it.My point is that it does not have that irregular sharp barking 'will i stop now or maybe not' sound that i like. Now you put your feet up on the rocking chair pard and get back to whittlin!

Sounds like a masochistic tendency to me.

Pete- that nice loping sound as we call it over here?

The best engine tuner I've seen is W8YE. I've seen one of his 56's idle so low you couldn't hear it when he was landing. He wouldn't tell me how low it was idling.

Is it normal for the 125 to guzzle 14 ounces of fuel in 5 minutes at half throttle? At least I think its a 14 ounce tank. It runs great, pulls my Mustang around nicely, but man, 5 minutes and I have maybe a 1/4 tank left, I need to see if I can swap out that tank to one I can see the fuel level in, its the white one that you get in ARF kits.

OTOH I can fly my Something Extra with the Saito 72 on it for about 20 minutes on an 8 or 10 ounce tank. I always have at least half a tank left when I land, and I don't putter around, I have it firewalled a lot.

If you have 1/4 of a 14 oz tank left after 5 minutes run of your 125 then you have burned 10 1/2 oz. or 2.1 oz per minute. If you have 1/2 tank of a 10 oz tank left after 20 minutes run with your 72, you have burned 5 oz or 1/4 oz. per minute. Big difference. Is this correct? Just wanted clarification, I have neither one. Thanks

Well, he IS OLD fart, not Young fart!

There are preverts, perverts, and Old F****, Im the latter.

Back to Saito. I had filled the tank with a Wildcat/SIG blend that was heavy in Castor. It smoked like crazy, and idled poorly. I noticed when I pulled glow power the RPM drops, so I am thinking that first I need to lean the LSN, and adjust the HSN to match, and that might improve on the fuel use. I can't imagine that a motor not quite twice the size of another one would use more than twice the amount of fuel, in a third of the time. It ran much better when I drained out the castor fuel and used pure Wildcat. There is a visible smoke trail too when flying, unlike the 72.

I have the original 1.25 and it took gallons of fuel before it broke in. It's been a long time since then, but I would guess close to 3 gallons before it ran smoothly and began to get good fuel economy. After those first few gallons mine sipped fuel and I kept reducing the size of the tank. It really didn't use a whole lot more than my 72.

Hmm may be its newer than I thought then. Picked it up used, it's clean but does show signs of being used but the baked on goo on the muffler.

I took a look at my FG-11 and FA-91, looks like I can put the carb from the 91 on it, appears that it will line up and fit. If it does, I will bench test it on glow and see how it does. If I get more speed out of it and faster response, then I will get another carb for it and go that route.

I can feel a 125 joke coming...SO! acdc that was you prowling out the back of my shed after i threw my 125 out the rear window.Barry it never made the right 'loping' sound for me pard

ps sr i heard that when harley went to fuel injection they lost the rough sounding edge off the earlier versions so they programmed some of that back in via the ecu, next they'll be recommending you drop a bit of nitro and castor in to the fuel tank.

Why knock the 125? its a real power house in my mustang, it just enjoys the fuel like a wino enjoys the Ripple. I got a 16 ounce tank that I can see the fuel level in, so going to swap that out, and see about tuning the engine. I never touched the carb since I got it other than moving the HSN so that I could put the extension on it.

Ah yes, Ripple. Tried it once, only once. Lacked the body and bouquet of Thunderbird though.

I think what richard was trying to say is that your figures seem all over the place and you could fix that by putting a tacho on it and starting from the top end first after you richen up the lsn.God knows a 125 can do with all the help it can get.Mine does it's going mouldy in the back yard next to a couple of flicked props.

Acdii
why can't you just use the FG carb and open the needle valve to use nitro?

The Glow fuel will eat the hell out of it. I did give it some thought, but not about to take a $135 risk. I think later today I may take the 125 out back and give it a tuneup. I did some adjustments to the landing gear on the Mustang, and replaced the 14 ounce tank with a 16 ounce one that I can see the fuel in. Once I can get the 125 to run as good as the 100, and now that the wheels roll freely on the Mustang, it should be much more enjoyable to fly.

I received a brand new 1.25a a couple of days ago, might get to break it in tomorrow.

If that 1.25 is guzzling fuel the LS needle is still set too rich, it should use 1.25 oz per minute at full throttle if set correctly, unless you're running one of those go no-where props.

Here is the new 1.25a in a new kind of box, it seems superior to previous boxes, hopefully I can wring it out tomorrow. I've waited a long time to get this engine.
