Here we GO! Ok guys, I'd like to say that this is a new question but I'm sure that someone somewhere has asked it before. I'm building a SIG Hog-Bipe and will be installing a Saito .91 for power. I am also using a cowling from Fiberglass Specialties. I have purchased a Saito flexible exhaust with plans to exhaust out the bottom (Pitts Style). Does anyone know where I can find a narrow performance muffler (12mm) to attach at the exit end of my exhaust tube? The stock muffler is rather large to bring through the bottom of the cowling. Also, the flex exhaust already has the pressure tube so I don't need one on the Muffler.

Thank you,

PSB
just run the flex pipe no need for muffler the Saito 4 strokes run reasonably quiet with out a muffler.
O by the way the saito 91 is a great choice for the hog bipe. Had one in my last hog bipe and putting one in the next one that I just picked. And if you never had the the bipe before it is a great flyer too.
would like to see what you did can you post a pic.

Once I figure out how to post pics on this site, I'll be happy to do so. So far I have just finished getting both wing ready to sand and cover. I built them 1st so I am about to start the Fuselage. I'll be using a cowling, as previously mentioned. Dual ailerons. I'll move the Dubro landing gear 3/4" forward. I'll build a custom Turtle deck and extend it all the way to the Vertical stabilizer. I am currently considering rounding the Rudder and Elevator just because I like the look.. I will also build a Fuel Tank hatch. It might take me several months, but those are the plans right now.

What are you making it look like. I always like a good kit bash. Thought about making one look like a PT17 it has the right wing size and look just need to reshape the tail a little.

Or you can cut the flexi pipe at the header and weld a straight bit of stainless pipe on

Dave, "break a leg" as we say over here, best wishes.

C-Crunch,

I'm not really trying to make it look like anything in particular. A Hog-Bipe with rounded tail Feathers, I guess. I just like the look of rounded tail feathers better than the squared off ones.

I had a first today after a beautiful day of flying my Decathlon with a Saito 82 and my Cub with a Saito 100. After a day of flying I was unpacking when I returned home and I had to turn my Decathlon fuselage slightly to the right for storage and I saw a little fuel drip out. I figured I would take the cowl off and check the lines and fuel tank. As I was getting ready to remove the cowl I noticed the fuel line going to the muffler had come off and the muffler nipple was still inside the fuel tubing. I have never had a muffler nipple come loose on any nitro engine has this happen to anyone else before? Just to be clear after I found this I screwed the nipple back in and it went on tight and it was not worn or stripped by vibration. One last thing also on my Cub with the Saito 100 I tried running the 15 x 6 and it flew the plane but it didn't have any extra power and it felt slightly underpowered. I put a 14 x 8 and it made a big difference does anyone see a problem with that engine/prop combo.I have the 90" Great planes cub which is heavier than most cubs that size.

If it were the SIG 1/5th Cub, the 15 x 6 would be perfect for it, but the GP cub is a brick, so your results were dead on. The 14x8 on my Cub is insane, unlimited vertical, and will hang it off the prop at half throttle. My Cub weighs about 5 pounds.

i have found that most airplane and engine combinations are unique to one another, what works on one plane and engine (say the 100) my not work on another. So if it flys good with the 14X8 then you most have found the right combination. Like Acdii says the 100 with the bigger prop works better on his plane.
As far as the nipple coming out of the muffler it is come and a little JB might help it stay. I feel that it is caused from not being tight at the beginning of the first flight I my self have only lost one that I can remember and it was on a two stroke. Captcrunch

Very interesting that the nipple could unscrew from the muffler and still be inside the fuel tubing. Was the tubing a very loose fit on the nipple? Thanks.

I have had it happen on one, the fuel line is loose enough for the nipple to swivel but tight enough to stay put. A little of the blue loctite solved that issue.

When referring to the Salto 100 and the 14 X 8 I just want to make sure I'm not overloading the engine with the incorrect prop.

no your not overloading the engine. In fact it sounds like you have the right prop for the 100

ps pearl if you can get away with flying a 90" cub on a fa100 good luck to you

Maybe Pearl likes a scale speed and flight characteristics. Most R/C pilots do have a tendency to over power their airplanes including myself.

The FA100 on a 1/5th SIG Cub is pure over power by a large factor. I had to put an over sized prop on it so the wings stay on. The very first time I flew it went straight up after rolling 10', and that was at half throttle with a 14x6 MAS. That Cub flew faster than my P-51. The way the tail wires were singing it sounded like a Stuka on a bomb dive. The 15x6 Evolution prop(Which are no longer made ) tamed it to a scale like flight at half throttle, and scary wild at full.

Since its also a Golden Knight, it looks really good on that Cub. When I get another dummy engine for the left side, I will paint it with gold covers to match.

I'd just stick the other engine on as well and refrain from calling it a dummy.Buying a large bag of brown sugar at the first opportunity

A little water and yeast can transform that brown sugar into something your engine could run on (with glow driver on however) But rum now available from Cuba is likely better tasting and higher proof.

The problem is those Caribbean islands they always keep the best rum for themselves and import the rest! I prefer dark to light rum.
