Welcome to Club SAITO !
Well as far as birds go, my dogs are safe, no bird is big enough to carry away a collie, and my barn cats have been safe so far, but any yote that shows up gets shot. If close enough, its 9 mil, otherwise they just get irritated with a 22. Some day though, a scoped 30-06 will change that, but I have to be very careful in which direction so I don't shoot someones barn or house that I can't see beyond the tree line.
Speaking of birds, on my way home last week I saw a bald eagle flying over the road. It swooped down and was flying parallel to my truck. What a magnificent creature they are. I did catch part of it on video, but not close enough to see the beauty.

I got a Henry Evil Roy .22LR. It's so the kids can practice shooting now that they have their safety certificates. Some day a nice high powered rifle with scope will be in the budget, just not today.

A good used 30-30 makes a good coyote gun and it might be a little easier on the pocketbook. Hit them in front shoulder and they aren't going anywhere but the fur buyer.

Yep, a 22 Hornet should put a hole through them. I bought a case of Hornady Critical Defense bullets for mine before we knew how the election was going to go last November. Well, I got a few cases for other calibers too.
Dave, the 22 Swift is an excellent round. Have you tried www.Ammoseek.com for buying any ammo? Maybe I'll look for any 22 Swifts for sale around here.

Dave that would be a famous and preferred pre 1964 model 70,prized(for the quality of it's bolt action)in 270win and other calibres, what's your opinion of them today re throat erosion affecting accuracy? have barrel steels improved much from the seventies when i used one, ended up rechambering it to 22.250 improved.I mentioned the k hornet because it has a mild report in settled areas and it's cheap to reload.Nice looking 65.
Popo i'll break this gently to you..steve irwin is dead.He was scuba diving off the far north queensland coast above and slightly behind a huge stingray, apparently the ray flicked it's long tail up and the huge barb penetrated his chest cavity and heart killing him instantly. Now here's where the aussie 'black sense of humour' comes in...i heard a few blokes say he should have been wearing a good pair of sunnies...keeps the rays off.

Pete and Barry, I don't own a 2-20 Swift, I grew up reading Stoeger Shooters Bibles, us boys would get our Dad a new one every Christmas. The 2-20 Swift was always the fastest gun in there and the Weatherby 460 Magnum the most powerful at 8,000 foot pounds at the muzzle.
There used to be a lady here who went by LadyFlyer and she felt that the Saito .65 was the sweetest engine of all.

Dave i remember lady flyers comments, always gracious but wrong, the 82 whips a 65 for all around attachment to normal sized arf's,i hope she comes back to dispute that
ps i've rolled a 460 weatherby round across a gunsmiths bench once, scared the hell outta saito

As the old, very old saying goes, "you can't beat cubic inches" not so true anymore when a Ford F 150 3.0 litre Diesel can have 476 foot pounds of torque.
I think the new .65 is going on to a 60 size Stick.

I knew an old Gun Shop owner who had a lefty version of a .460 Weatherby, beautiful gun! My best buddy had fired some of the old Nitro Express double rifles with cartridges loaded with period materials (Who in their right mind loads Cordite?). Any way the Weatherby owner let him try the .460 It was impressive! I wimped and declined to fire it. I was an underweight bean pole back in those days and it would have knocked me into next week. My buddy was 6'8" and 290 he could handle it.

So Anywho, I took the kids to the range to partake in a firearms safety course, since they no longer teach it in school. My 9 and 11 YO kids are pretty good shots. So on the way home I stopped at a gunshop and they had a lot of rifles and handguns on display and I was going to get a take apart Ruger 10-22, but after looking at the sights, decided not to, and kept looking. I then found the Henry. Always wanted one and the price was less than the Ruger. Its just the right size to plink targets with for both me and the kids, and being 22, rounds are cheap, if 6.2 cents a piece can be called cheap.
While I was at it, I have had a Concealed Carry permit for several months but never owned a gun, so shopped around until I found a Ruger LC9s, and got one of those too. It is a Pro model so no safety and can fire without a mag. Very accurate too for its size. I put 70 rounds through it the first time out, and lost count of what I put through the Henry. And as I sit here typing this, there is a commercial playing for Henry's hard soda! LOL
With some practice I might attend an NSSF event. My aim is pretty good, provided there is enough light to sight with, the lanes are a bit dim so I can't see the front sight very well with my current glasses.
At some point I would like a centerfire rifle with scope, but don't know what caliber or if I want bolt action or lever action.

Playing with guns is a safer option but you wouldnt know that, because guns are illegal where you from. Just like this hobby is not for everybody and about the death ratio, there is this thing called Google, you might find yr answer there.
