One, if not my very first builds was a BTE Venture 60, flown with a Saito .72, it crashed in Fort Belvoir, Va. due to a right aileron servo failure. It went down in the middle of a concrete road on their Engineering Proving Ground. Smashed that .72 up badly, I gave it to William Robison. Then I built a BTE Flyin King flown with my ancient Saito .80 with the 15.5 to 1 compression ratio.

Dave,

You are a youngster
My first "kit" was an PappyDeBolt Champ in 1962. Built it and sold it because I couldn't afford the radio. Sure had fun building it. I did see the fellow that I sold it to actually fly it. The second kit was a Goldberg Junior Falcon .049 with Min-X radio and Galloping Ghost actuator by Rand. The Tharpe kit is super deluxe by comparison .What a beauty!

I went through 3 Four Star 60s since that first one. Nice planes too. Seeing that retract setup on acdii'splane has me thinking. I do like the looks of a low wing plane with a clean bottom.

Speaking of Saito .80; I just got a gift boxed one yesterday.....

Fingers crossed that I spread the load out properly to the #2 wing ribs to take the load that is lost by removing a portion of the #1 ribs. It was an interesting challenge to convert it to retracts, will see how she does on the ground with the wheels moved back an inch or so.

Cam alignment question,

guys, so on my Saito FA100 I mounted the Cam Hosing to the Case, well I could see that the Cam Gear pushed the Crank Pin to the left a bit (Pilot's Left), so I reinstated it and this time the crank pin was straight up,,

I have installed all kinds of cams before but never a Saito, so I am just wondering if things are all warm and cozy with this and I'm good to go now ??

note that I have not yet tightened the screws so I can reinstall it again if I have to
thanks guys !

Jim

I found one of these on Ebay, with the back mount adapter. Hope it's all there. Just bought a NGH 38cc 4-stroke to play with.

Sorry, I left out all the U-control models I built when I got my McCoy .35 for Christmas in 1956, then a McCoy .36, Spitfire .049, several .051's and .074's. I still have the Peewee .020 and OK Cub .024, I still have all of them. I flew the Spitfire on an F 86 Sabre Jet profile model. I was dumber than a load of wood but had a lot of fun.

We started u control at the age of eight here. A neighbor got me started at that. Didn’t care much for flying ic but sure liked the build part. That was 1958 but I think I am quite a bit younger than you.
Built Guillows kits and built them all winter long
Made instant splinters often. Getting my ham radio license in 1962 really increased the interest in RC

acdii, the new FourStar 64 Cowl will fit the 60, you will of course have to cut off the sides in the front, I bought one for my 60, it's not the coolest Cowl but it does look better with it

I have a couple cowls laying around that would fit, but prefer not to use them unless it is for scale reasons, then no worrying about cooling, or having to take it off to make adjustments. I tend to like the nose on the SIG plans, has a place for the fueller valve, and makes hookup easy and reliable. It's the same setup on the 4* as on my Somethin Xtra, which is one of my favorite planes.

New Saito .56 for Sig Four Star 54, I've had a change of plans, the Saito .62 on the Four Star is now going on the green LT 40. Neither needs the .62 but my other .56 is on an old RCM 40.

Since this picture the .56 has received a velocity stack and new Saito revised muffler and will fly with a a Turbo Header.

Just wanted to clear things up. Sig makes a 40 size kit and a ARF the kit is the 4*40 as you know. The ARF is a 4*40 with the 4*54 designation for the ARF being a newer and improved ARF. Both planes fly the same and have the same measurements. Its the same with the 4*60 and 4*64.
This is what i’m to understand if i’m completely Off my rocker let me know.

Just had too it was trailered in to the shop like that by the owner who had the weirdest coloured running shoes on.He says it just needs a new piston and head but you would be mad not to split the cases and hope that the gearbox is not full of piston parts too.I'll bet it's bent the rod, maybe the crank and hopefully for him it has'nt cracked the cases. It was one of those things that when you look at it you can't help staring while thinking you should have pulled the clutch in and hit the kill button pronto.

Sorry to say this here; Both the 40 and 60 Four Star planes look a lot better with a YS up front than a Saito.

That poor Hardly Doesnotrun engine reminds me of a BMW 1800 engine that I was asked to rebuild a few years ago. The owner said "It was sitting, well protected under a Maple tree for a few years." Shouldn't take too much to make it like new."

They both will fly more often because the Saito is far more reliable.

I thought being off your rocker was a prerequisite to being a builder? You don't have to be crazy to be a builder but it helps!

Depends on who is flying them.
That 91AC YS is a remarkably reliable runner. Not only reliable. but very enjoyable with the rock steady idle, unbeatable transition and the AWESOME power.
