At 6,000 rpm
At half tank point
Great tool, just bolt onto an old case with aluminum foil sandwiched under it and cut away.
It bothered me having two paper gaskets under the cam cover, so made myself a tool called Happy Harry's Handy Dandy Cam Cover Gasket Cutout Guide. It worked perfectly. I cut a gasket out of aluminum foil to replace one of the paper ones. By the time the 14 oz tank was finished the tach was reading 10,770, I went to take a picture of the new tach numbers and my numb thumb and fingers popped the tach right into the prop. Tach is dead, prop unharmed. I got the 10.440 rpm reading about where the tank level is in these pictures. I'll be back

In the above engine run I left out the prop size.
Saito 50 GK, new Boca Bearings, new gaskets, modern Revised Saito muffler
Prop===Graupner G-Sonic 12 x 6
Plug===OS-f
Fuel===Wildcat 10% with 18% full syn.
Max rpm after 14 oz of fuel burn==10,770
Idle 2,100
It took 45 minutes to empty the tank. Great engine.

Jim
Saito Engines, if you go to buy an OS 2 stroke and there is a Saito setting there, well then you have no choices , you buy the Saito

Dave, I remember you used a different Cams in the 130 you got from me,, so I looked it up, Garry is correct, the FA50, 100T and 130T all use the same Cam "SAI5035" and "SAI130T34" "stock",, you put the updated Cam (s) in the 130, LOL that means your 130 will produce more power than stock,, LOL it also means I could put those cams in my 100T,, but I really have no need to do that, it's big enough engine for my 4 Star 60

Tach it with an APC 12x6 Dave. I'm interested in those G-Sonic props.

Thanks AC, Glowy, I don't think I own an APC 12 x 6, I'll look though.
Jim, I'll have to search my pictures for some of the 130 stuff
Pet, I just ran the Saito 56 I rebuilt the G-Sonic made that high frequency bee buzz you talk about, it occured at 11,760 rpm
Saito 56 GK, newer model with front vent
Prop=== Graupner G-Sonic 12 x 6.
Plug====Taipan 4c Special
Fuel====Wildcat 10% with 18% full syn.
Muffler==Cast revised muffler
Max rpm after 30 minute refresher 11,760
Idle 2,100

Nope, I double checked that, I just ordered two APC 12 x 6's and a new digital tach.
That logic doesn't make sense, for years all I've heard is how APC's are the best because they turn higher rpm. Y'all are going to have to straighten me out on that, maybe I'm behind the times.

I am with you Dave !! I don't believe a given brand prop is the best just because they rev higher.. but maybe they were made that way so people would think that
but Dave, I wish you would tell us why you do not like them, LOL we can take it, I will most likely agree with you on your points anyway

This I know for sure: MAS classic props spin faster and xoar props spin slower than apc props on all of my engines. MAS K are about the same rpm as apc. The only other props I've tried were antique TF and the newer Vess but have no direct comparison to other props of the same size.
I've heard the buzzing noise is caused by stalling at the prop tips but not sure about that. Even my apc props will make that buzz if it's windy out at my test bench and also when I'm doing crazy flip flop aerobatics.

The G-sonics sure do make a lot of wind but I know that's not the whole story. Maybe by Tuesday I'll have the new tach and the 12 x 6 APC's. I have a Turnigy tach but I can't get it to measure glow speeds, it either wants to measure 100,000 rpm or 1,000 rpm rotor speeds.

Note different pin heighth
Jim, I think what was alluded to earlier was this picture of a 130 cam housing and a 65 cam housing, when I installed the left housing the cam did not turn because the gears weren't meshed. Sitll don't understand that one.

Actually I don't have anything against them, although a few years ago I got some that had the holes drilled at an angle. The bottom line is I started using the gray Graupners when the old Hobby-Lobby sold. Jim Thompson's (the owner) son was married to Herr Graupners daughter. At one time I knew every combination of Graupner, engine and plane that worked well together.

When I was a kid there was a ham radio op in the neighborhood who saved all his junk for me.
Maybe Dave could just bag up all those useless props and other such stuff and send you a CARE package now and then.
If you ever know someone coming this way I can send back a case or two of that fuel we talked about

Well I'm not prop expert by any stretch. My static thrust calculator shows apc props as having the highest CF (effectiveness coefficient) and therefore calculates that they take more hp to spin at any given rpm than the rest of the prop selections in the program.

ps still don't explain why a mas 15x8 briefly sounds like a sonic boom in a full throttle dive on the midget.
