If you tach is two blade only and you have a three bladed prop, you have to multiply the readings by .66666666 to have the correct answer

At this point, I just have to tell a tale . . . .
A friend and I both built Duraplane Aerobats and we both arrived at the field with them. I had a Enya SS40BB and 10-6 prop on mine and he had a Super Tiger 40 swinging a 9-6 three blade prop. He ran his engine on the starting stand and promptly shut it off saying that something was wrong with his engine for it was turning over 17,000 rpm when it tached it.
So I did a little calculating in my head and mentioned about the three blade prop and that his tach was still set on two blade. That his engine was only running around 11,500. He didn't say anything but started up and flew having a good time.

17,000 on a duraplane would be a death trap for someone..lol.. I have one of those and it flies like a brick." durabrick" Everybody hates it when I get it out. Everyone will land and just watch. It now has an os 61 on it..lol

Yes the Duraplane wing loading is the highest of any plane I've had. I built the plane some 10 yrs ago and it now has a OS 52. It was always a tail dragger and has two aileron servos side by side. It is good on windy bumpy days and has cartwheeled a couple times without damage.

RE: Club Enya
So I have finished the restoration job on the 46 and it's ready to rock-n-roll cost: engine $47 parts $40.50.
Would appreciate any advice on engine speeds, the manual suggests the maximum is 14 000 and a practical range between 8 500 - 13 000rpm with the idle set for between 2500 and 3000 rpm. What would be a realistic speed to prop it for, without it busting a gut? Should I also try and aim for a 2750 idle speed?
Mike.

Luna R, please describe the remote glow setup on your 46! That looks so clean! I've got several Enya 4-strokes(35,40,41,53,80,120, and 155) and would like a nice setup like you've done.
Thanks

Larsen,
That’s the standard Enya remote, one end connects to the glow plug in the head the other end has a standard glow plug attached which you connect your glow driver to... Enya Part Number SP-1 http://www.enya-engine.com/store/ind...dex&cPath=2_12

RE: Club Enya
Thanks Luna R! That one is different than the ones that came with my engines. I guess it is their newer design. I'll have to put in an order with Enya soon!
Take care,
Larsen
P.s. I think my post disappeared the other night??

Well I got it going OKish, seems the carby is leaking air quite a bit, could not get a reliable idle under 3600 rpm and the WOT speed was not steady as well, fluctuated 2-300 RPM. A shame really as it has very good compression and the power is OK ~ MA 12x6 @ 9000-9300 rpm and an APC 11x6 @ 10000-10400
Oh well add another $40 for a TN carby...

The leak is most likely around the intake manifold somewhere?
The top rpm is not too bad for a 46

Nope that was the first thing I checked, it has new seals and I ran bead of fuel around the manifold where it joins the carby and it didn't get drawn in, so that end was fine. Where it enters the head you can put suction on with your mouth and it will hold it all day.... so seal there and the valve is fine to. I did notice a few bubbles around where the spray bar and needle fit and also where the throttle valve and lever connect, these bubbles occurred as the engine was dying at idle. (Slight backfire)

RE: Club Enya
Well I am finally ready to start my enya 120..I have read the only manual I can find for it but it does not explain the needles on it..When looking at the engine mounted..The HSN is on the right..On the carb there are 2 screws..One on the inside is longer and there is a shorter one to the left of it.Can anyone tell me what they are? Also does anyone have a good starting point for the needles?

Luns, does your carb look like this one from the rear? Picture #1 is with the throttle barrel in the choked position and Picture #2 is is in the normal running position.

dkxtreme, is your carb like the one in this photo? It is a 120 Enya (not the R). The valve cover used to be painted black, don't let it fool you.

Luna, I noticed in the photo that there's no fuel tubing at the needle valve. Is that where the leak was?

Yeah it's the same carby, and I took care in making sure the choke was not engaged, you read my proceedure for tuning it, did I do something wrong?
