Clean up is finished on my chrome Enya 60. All set with a new pair of Bowman rings. It came with an Enya strap on muffler. Should I remove the exhaust restrictor and make up some plugs, or run with both the restrictor and muffler?

Jjscott, your engine is gorgeous!

FNQFLYER, post your question on the diesel forum...lots of help there, and some even have the 41 FS diesel.

I have a 60-4C myself and I've found it to be a very good running and reliable engine. However, it likes a fat idle mixture. It will be a little blubbery on transition, but it rarely quits. This is running it without muffler pressure. I run mine on 5-10% nitro 20% castor - keep the nitro limited to 10% or less. It doesn't run any better and very little faster on more nitro. I set the valve lash cold pretty tight - .001" is all that's needed. The lash gets wider as the engine warms up. The prop shaft is 7mm X 1 so any Dubro or Sullivan spinner nuts will work. I have a Higley jam nut (thin flat lock nut) behind the spinner nut on mine. Enyas like to rev, don't be afraid to let it rev to 11-12k. The carb will spit a lot of fuel if it's over-propped. Max revs is 13,000rpm.

Lastly, the fitting on the back of the crankcase is for venting oil out of the crankcase. Run a length of fuel tubing from the fitting outside the fuse.

Use a tach to set the main needle, it's pretty tough to hear when a 4-stroke is at peak revs. Usually it will just quit if you get too lean, but it might backfire and kick the prop off if too lean on higher nitro fuel. If you don't have a tach, start it out really rich and lean it out until it just cleans up and runs smooth. An occasional misfire is fine.

What size/pitch is the header screw? The header was pinch pretty bad when I bought is thing and I was trying to reshape it and messed up the fastener. I need to either rethread it or by a new one.

Can you post a picture? I am taking that as the nut that holds the exhaust header into the cylinder head stripped or the cylinder head itself is damaged (internal threads)?

Measure the old ones and send an email or do a search at RCBearings.com.

According to Peter Chinn's test of the ENYA 40X (which I feel sure would have the same bearings as the 45X) both bearings were of Japanese NSK manufacture - the rear one being a 15 mm x 28 mm 10 ball, and the front a 3/8 in. x 7/8 in. 7 ball. ENYA part #'s for the SS 40, 45 & 50 are # 40107B and # 60207C. I would email Ken Enya direct at [email protected] or alternatively contact this eBay seller http://stores.ebay.com/thecontrollin...p2047675.l2563 Cheers, BOB

BOCA have SS bearings (if they are the same)

I would contact a guy named Noel Jensen, Email: [email protected]. I ran into him on eBay and he supplied all new bearings for my Enya .46 4-C. He even supplies Frank Bowman piston rings. He's a very nice guy and has even designed and built his own nitro aircraft engine.

Hit him with an E-mail. RC Bearings and Boca Bearings could come up with any bearings for my .46.

Cheers,

Bill

Hey Bill! How've you been?

I dont mess with Boca. Way too expensive. RCBearings has had nearly everything else I've ever needed except some RC car engine bearings that need the faster speed capability/ball retainer (38,000rpm+). I'll hit up the guy you listed and see if he can get me the high speed bearings I need.

Hey Quickie,

I've been fine and you? Time to turn your air boats into ice boats for the winter?

I've never been able to find the bearings I want at Boca. One time RC Bearings was a real help with new bearings for my K&B 3.5 Outboard motor when you could speak to a live person. Now they have you look-up the bearing on a chart on their website, If you don't find it you just have to move on.

I think you'll like working with Noel. Let me know how it goes.

Merry Christmas!!

Cheers,

Bill

Good to see you around again brother! I'm shelving most stuff, but I am building a hovercraft in my spare time. Enya .15 (2 of them - IV #3304 model) powered; one for inflation and one for propulsion. Goal is a free model with using only material I have on hand.

I have needed bearings for some of my car engines but I request the phenolic ball retainers. Since they goofed my last order up and sent metal retainer bearings for my Jett .35, I email Paul beforehand. The descriptions aren't specific enough on RCbearings' website so I confirm by email before ordering. They carry stuff that isn't listed on the website in "sets".

I'll try going though Noel for these bearings as a trial - having a backup plan isn't a bad idea. I just won't pay $28/set for $10 worth of bearings.

No need for the Stainless bearings, the standard bearings at Boca are $11.88 and free shipping and are as good or better than any others you can get. I never have had them rust. I have them in several engines now including a Saito 1.00 I re-bearinged a few months ago..

Two RC car engines I need bearings for. One is a SH .28 - Boca price $23.77 http://search.bocabearings.com/m/p/4...-sh-28-28?za=b
RC Bearings price for standard bearings $3.02 / $2.58

$5.60 versus $23.77......... A bit of a difference.

Also a bit of a difference where one is designed for a glow engine the other is a generic bearing. That company doesn't even list SH as a brand.

if your happy with a $5.60 bearing, great.

Personally, I have never had a bearing from Boca fail, so i will happily pay the extra for peace of mind.

A radial bearing is a radial bearing. If Boca tells you their bearings are "designed for glow engines" and you believe that, that's a healthy dose of expensive snake oil. I haven't had a "generic bearing" fail in a glow engine yet either. I'd put money on the fact that the 607-2RS you get from Boca is the same bearing you get from RCBearings. The only difference is the cost.

Cap, at 470.7 cu. in. I think was the largest putt putt that was made. It had a 36 hp pony motor to start it.

I just got the ticket for this club. Rebuilding an old Enya 46 4C. Bearings need to be replaced and rust and gunk removed. I will post a video of first test if I'm done.
The engine is intended to power a "silent" Q500 plane. I read they turn up to 14000. I will rev it to the limit.

I think Enyas paperwork says most of their 4-strokes' "critical rpm" is 13,000.

The Enya 46 4C manual I have says "critical" is 14000.
I intend to use high pitch props like 10x8 or 10x9 and go to about 11-12000 ground rpm. That should allow for unloading to 13000+ in the air.
